About the role:

 

An exciting opportunity to grow your career with the multi-functional Arden Hills Analytical Laboratory (AHAL). This Process Engineer III will partner with laboratory staff, management, R&D, and operations teams to support manufacturing demands and product characterization investigations. They will own test method development, experimental design, and data generation in the mechanical testing and x-ray computed tomography teams within AHAL. Additionally, this role will support various process improvement activities including equipment qualification, software qualification, and method validation activities that will require project management concepts and skills. This role will support the following responsibilities: 50% investigational laboratory work (method development, data generation, report writing), 30% project management and process improvement activities (equipment/software qualification, method validation activities, SOP/WI documentation improvements), 15% routine quality testing, 5% equipment support and NCEP/CAPA documentation.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

Act as a subject matter expert in providing guidance to internal customers on designing analysis plans to meet their needs Partner with product development teams to develop inspection SOPs/WIs on the x-ray CT to evaluate product dimensions against design specifications Create custom set ups to support mechanical testing using an Instron frame which may include designing specialized fixturing using CAD software and interfacing with Boston Scientific’s machine and model shops Support routine mechanical testing including tensile/elongation, compression, testing, durometer/microhardness testing, destructive physical analysis including mechanical cross section and optical inspection Develop and execute method validation protocols on the x-ray CT/Instron load cells, grips, or fixtures Establish parameters that optimize image quality on 2D or 3D x-ray system Drive process improvement and optimization projects while ensuring associated documentation is maintained and up to date Support routine metrology activities on injection molded silicone components using an x-ray CT system Own investigations and documentation of nonconforming events and prevention (NCEP) and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) Coordinate small teams of 2 – 3 people to achieve data delivery timelines Support equipment maintenance and troubleshooting activities Perform routine laboratory testing in accordance with FDA and other regulatory requirements and internally established procedures Interpreting product specifications, identifying out of spec conditions/atypical results/deviations, and following procedures relating to nonconforming material

 

Required qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution 3+ years of engineering experience relevant to this role Customer-service oriented with ability to communicate effectively (written and verbally) with individuals on all levels Ability to foster a mindset of teamwork and collaboration within and outside of the analytical lab Analytical, process and result-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

 

Preferred qualifications:

 

Experience working in a manufacturing or laboratory setting Exposure to quality system (QS) requirements for regulated industries Experience with Instron systems or similar mechanical test equipment Experience running 3D x-ray Computed Tomography systems in a laboratory setting Project management experience

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
