Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Lead and/or direct engineering resources in the development and improvement of processes and equipment. Achieve low-cost manufacturing, superior quality/service and improved capability/capacity. Oversee general operations to anticipate capacity requirements and enable innovative solutions to mitigate external factors.
Key Responsibilities Ensure all company procedures, policies and safety rules are followed. Identify areas of opportunity and improve processes through robust use of Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma concepts, develop procedures, recommend tool changes on new and existing tools and fixtures, etc., to ensure the proper Department operation. Coordinate logistics and equipment selection for the production on new products, increased capacity requirements, and maintaining up-to-date technology through the Department. Oversee installation and initial use of new equipment, to insure proper use, operation, and integration into the department with a sustainable capable process. Analyze and resolve technical problems, develop specifications, formulate plans, estimates and other required engineering data to effectively address process issues through the approval of the Engineering and Manufacturing Manager. Develop workmanship standards, root cause analyses, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement procedures. Ensure processes have acceptable capability levels. Build effective relationships with division engineering, division manufacturing, and commercial (as necessary) in support of execution of the plant engineering strategy. Support Test Equipment platform at the Plant through MSI Group. Support Plant Engineering Systems such as FWD. Be accountable for timely completion of assigned projects Ability to lead Multi-Cultural Projects/Meetings. Responsible for Yield Monitoring and propose actions for Continuous Improvement. Promote Teamwork. Experiences/Education - Required Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field or equivalent. Desired BS in Mechatronics or Mechanics. Demonstrated track record of engineering / technical accomplishment such as delivery of sustainable incremental improvement, step change in capability / performance, etc Certified Green Belt Experiences/Education - Desired +5 years of manufacturing experience or equivalent, with some successes on past Engineering Projects. Demonstrate PC skills using software packages (Microsoft Office, MiniTab, CAD Design Software, Visual Basic, C++.) Experience in operations and/or engineering with progressive responsibilities Experience managing the talent development strategy for the department, including programs to attract, develop and retain key talent Demonstrated track record of engineering / technical accomplishment such as delivery of sustainable incremental improvement, step change in capability / performance, etc Demonstrated delivery of results through project and organizational leadership Demonstrated track record (Performance Results and People Development) Experience across multiple organizations/plants Knowledge of manufacturing accounting and control Knowledge of manufacturing excellence tools (AME, KT, Lean) Experience with cross-functional collaboration
