**91941BR** **Job Title:** Process Improvement Lead **Department/Function:** Operations: Manufacturing, Production, Maintenance, Utilities **Job Description:** **Process Improvement Lead - Decatur, IL** **Job Summary** Provides micro support in a high-volume, process-control laboratory, for a large fermentation facility. The lab micro process improvement lead will monitor the day-to-day operation of the microbiology area of the lab, troubleshoot fermentation problems in the lab, consult with engineers, research personnel and lab personnel, as well as lead microbiology technician coaching, training, and professional development. **Essential Job Functions** + Adheres and guides Safety, Environmental, Quality, and HR programs + Review and follow up on microbiology data to ensure product quality and food safety + Communicate interdepartmentally regarding lab activities, lab services, analytical data, product quality, and food safety + Monitor technician performance and provides coaching and training + Monitor microbiology status of lab and plant, reports status, then takes appropriate action to escalate product quality and food safety problems and trends + Oversee personnel and operation logistics for the microbiology lab area + Ensure uninterrupted daily operation of microbiology lab + Work to continuously improve microbiology performance and practices at BioProducts + Evaluate and develop current technology for improving lab quality, productivity, product quality, and food safety + Oversee the validation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of micro equipment + Write and review lab test protocols, as necessary + Maintains micro lab quality metrics + Report product quality or food safety issues to QC and QA + Understands their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in food safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices. **Education / Experience** + Lab Technician III in BioProducts Lab is preferred + Bachelor’s degree in a science related field is preferred + Experience in drafting standard operating procedures + Extensive lab experience, specifically micro lab experience + Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite **Working Conditions** + Respiratory Hazards: + Dust + Hot/Cold Temperature Extremes: + Potential hot/cold temperature extremes in plant environment + Chemicals + Hazardous chemicals present + Lighting + Indoor **Physical Requirements** + Moves and transports fifty pounds + Ascends and descends stepladders + Moves to and from lab workstations + Positions self to reach items and instruments on lab benches + Diagnoses mechanical problems with lab instruments + Operates lab instruments + Installs and removes lab instruments + Inputs lab data + Drafts reports + Collects documentation + Communicates and exchanges information with technicians and employees of other departments + Inspects lab instruments and inventory + Moves to and from Fermentation Department + Opens, prepares, and analyzes samples + Lifts and carries samples, instruments, steel transfer vessels, boxes, supplies + Navigates an industrial environment, which may include climbing stairs, walking on grating and traversing heights + Dons and doffs personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hard hat, safety boots and uniform Excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement listed?
