Process Instrumentation Engineer 

This is an exempt-level position.  

***Ideal work location for this position is Decatur, IL or another larger ADM site.  

Position Summary:  

The Instrumentation Engineer will develop and provide technical guidance and recommended practices related to process instrumentation throughout the ADM organization.

Specific responsibilities include the application of instrumentation and controls expertise to new and existing process operations with tasks ranging from standards development, mentorship of colleagues, evaluation/adoption of new technology, and the implementation of intelligent device management (IDM) programs.

The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that process instrumentation systems are designed, installed, and maintained at a level adequate for optimal process control while leveraging embedded field communication protocols like EtherNet/IP, HART, and WirelessHART.

Essential Job Functions:
 Develop and apply standards, recommended practices, and work processes related to process instrumentation, automated valves, intelligent device management, and WirelessHART technologiesCommunicate standards, recommended practices, and opportunities to peers across the company to drive consistent adoption of technology and optimization of process instrumentation systemsMentor and develop colleagues regarding instrumentation and Intelligent Device Management systems. Leveraging our Continuous Colleague Development (CCD) process to improve overall instrumentation knowledge throughout the companyPartner with ADM colleagues to support the instrumentation scope of capital projects including scope definition, sizing and selection, cost assessments, and construction startup/supportPartner with ADM teams to develop and implement Intelligent Device Management work processes and implementation strategies, and track and report successes that can be replicated across the organizationEvaluate new instrumentation technology and assess the value it can bring to the facility while supporting the various plant groups with the adoption of these technologiesAssess existing plant instrumentation installations and make recommendations for improvement or updates based on application and available technologySupport optimization efforts through the assessment of existing instrumentation and the application of new technology required to optimize control of various processes
Required Qualifications:
 Commitment to working safely and to the awareness for the safety of coworkersMinimum of 5 years of significant plant manufacturing experience with process instrumentation and control systems, including a wide variety of process instrumentation such as flow, pressure, level, temperature, liquid analytical, and automated valve assembliesExperience with intelligent device management systems and tools (AMS Device Manager, WirelessHART, Field Communicators, etc.…)Working knowledge of common instrumentation related drawings and documentation, such as P&IDs and electrical schematicsDemonstrated organizational skills, as well as excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skillsMust be able to accomplish results by working independently, in teams, and with others at all levels of the plant organizationMust be willing and able to work in plant areas (i.e. walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift up to 50 lbs. and move through close spaces) to understand and monitor the processMust be able to respond quickly to changing requirements and be capable of working in hot and cold temperatures
Preferred Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a similar technical disciplineDemonstrated experience leading and/or mentoring team members
