Process Manager

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations. 

The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.

Job Description

The Processing Manager will have extensive knowledge and expertise in processing methods, including crushing, grinding, gravity, flotation, CIL and heap leaching. The Processing Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the processing plant, optimizing recovery rates, and maintaining high standards of safety and environmental compliance.

Job Responsibilities

Develop and provide leadership to the team.

Lead by example. Actively engage in recruiting and developing a diverse team of Operators, Technicians, Metallurgists and Administrative staff. Build and lead a dynamic team focused on safety, planning, data analytics, effective communication, and continuous improvement. Organize work plans, prioritize, and administer processes and procedures to ensure efficient use of time and resources. Create space for your team to be effective in delivering results and foster an inclusive work environment. Ensure current and future training requirements are met and develop clear progression paths for the team. Mentor and coach team members in best practices related to mill and heap leach operations and metallurgy Promote a high-performance culture by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching.

Provide Technical Expertise to Mill, Heap Leach, Refinery and Metallurgy Teams

Oversee all aspects of the processing plant operations, including crushing, grinding, gravity separation, flotation, CIL recovery, heap leach recovery, carbon stripping, refinery and the metallurgy team Ensure metallurgical accounting is being performed to an acceptable standard with appropriate factors being used to account for gravity gold content Provide technical leadership and guidance to metallurgy team to ensure mill and heap leach processes are being continually optimized. Uses an understanding of asset management principles to ensure the plant operates for optimal availability and reliability. Promote best practices as they relate to heap and solution management to ensure optimal metal recovery. Develop and implement strategies to optimize recovery rates and maximize plant throughput, with specific focus on grinding, gravity, flotation and CIL recovery. Develop and manage the processing plant budget and deliver on capital and operating commitments. Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations and standards. Monitor and analyze plant performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.

A Key Collaborator and Team Member

A key contributor to the strategic planning process, collaborating closely with Technical Services to deliver short, medium and long term metal plans and forecasts. Work as continuous improvement champion delivering capital and operational improvement projects related to improving processing operations.  This can include plant infrastructure, process improvements or equipment upgrades. Develops and fosters relationship with Fixed Maintenance team to ensure work identified by operations team is captured in maintenance plans.  Priorities preventative and predictive maintenance practices. Collaborate with other departments, such as mining and technical services, to deliver on production commitments. Works with consultants and business partners to develop and advance projects / studies.
  Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in mineral processing, preferably in a gold mining environment. Experience in technical and operational aspects of gold processing operations Understanding of asset management principles and maintenance practices on mills, crushers and other plant equipment Capability to lead, mentor and develop processing staff Proven leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  Skills    In-depth technical knowledge of oxide and sulfide ore metallurgical processes, refining, and gold extraction methodologies. Ability to manage superintendents and general foremen.  Ability to lead professionals through critical thinking paths for process improvement.  Ability to think analytically, to execute findings, to develop/make recommendations, and move forward new ideas that improve the process.   Ability to set the path of optimum maintenance of company assets.   Ability to implement problem solutions through a metallurgical and mechanical process. Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.  Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
