Are you interested in being part of an innovative team that supports Westinghouse’s mission to provide clean energy solutions? At Westinghouse, we recognize that our employees are our most valuable asset and we seek to identify, attract and recruit the most qualified talent while recognizing and encouraging the value of diversity in the global workplace.
Fauske & Associates, LLC (FAI) is a Westinghouse Electric Company affiliated company located in Burr Ridge, Illinois, approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. The company was founded in 1980 and has brought a high tech capability to the understanding of issues related to both nuclear reactor safety and chemical reactor safety. The principals and staff are recognized in the nuclear and chemical industries for phenomenological modeling and development of tools related to the prevention and accommodation of chemical and nuclear plant accidents. The services provided to customers all around the world for the last 30 years are unique and specialized. They reflect the skill and knowledge of a group of individuals dedicated to providing the best means of protecting mankind and the environment.
Please note relocation assistance is not provided for this position.
FAI was the principal research contractor for the Design Institute for Emergency Relief Systems (DIERS). A primary purpose of that effort was evaluation of emergency relief vent requirements, including energy and gas release rates for systems under upset conditions, and the effect of two phase flow on the emergency discharge process. The DIERS program resulted in the development of a bench scale low thermal inertia adiabatic calorimeter, which was first commercialized as the Vent Sizing Package (VSP). Later improvements led to the VSP2. The Reactive System Screening Tool (RSST) was introduced by FAI in 1989 to provide an easy, inexpensive approach to the DIERS testing methodology. Recent enhancements led to the Advanced Reactive Systems Screening Tool (ARSST) in 1999. FAI uses the VSP2 and ARSST calorimeters to characterize chemical systems and design emergency pressure relief systems.
FAI has openings in the Chicago area for a Process Safety Engineer 2 in their Thermal Hazards Group.
Your Day-to-Day:
Provide direct engineering support to operations covering all aspects of reactive chemical hazards as they pertain to process safety
Communicate with clients in order to determine project scope required to solve their process safety problems
Analyze and develop proposals, renew business opportunities, and contribute to implementing strategic plans
Design and execute a number of experimental techniques to gather thermal data for reactive materials
Analyze data from associated experiments and use data to perform engineering calculations
Make recommendations to clients regarding the sizing of emergency relief systems and thermal stability of self-reactive chemicals
Technical writing in order to communicate experimental and calculational results in a professional, yet easy to understand way
Provide training to users, or potential users, on the operation of calorimeters and associated engineering analysis
Support the implementation of quality programs such as ISO 17025 and ISO 9001
