Job Description
The Process Safety Management (PSM) Coordinator will be responsible for understanding industrial refrigeration systems and equipment, process safety management, as well as basic management principles and practices. A sound understanding of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems is essential in order to establish the proper context for the application of process safety management standard. An in-depth understanding of both process safety principles and the PSM regulation itself is a cornerstone requirement. In addition, the PSM/Facilities Compliance Coordinator must be familiar with other related safe work practices and regulations. The PSM Coordinator must be capable of effectively working with others including leading teams of technical staff (technicians, subject matter experts, safety professionals, engineers, and others) and coordinating work on the covered process being conducted by plant personnel and outside contractors. Finally, the PSM Coordinator must be capable of effectively communicating above and below.
The PSM Coordinator is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a management system that results in satisfaction of the 14 elements of OSHA's PSM program. The system should result in continual improvement of the program and a safe workplace.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Manage the Management of Change (MOC) process.Coordinate and ensure all PHA’s are performed as required.Ensure PSM program is always audit ready.Ensure Quarterly PSM team meetings are held and documented with meeting minutes. Participate in a 3-year PSM Compliance Audit at another facility at least once every three years.Ensure follow up tracking is documented on all PHA recommendations to closure.Ensure follow up tracking is documented on all Compliance Audit “Exceptions” and “Other Corrective Actions”.Schedule and coordinate quarterly updates to the ammonia manager and affected employees on all PHA open items.Schedule and coordinate quarterly updates to the facility manager and affected employees on all Compliance Audit open Exceptions and Recommendations.Schedule and coordinate quarterly updates to the ammonia manager and affected employees on all Mechanical Integrity Inspection open defects.Assist in managing the Hot Work Program and Emergency Action Plan.Ensure proper preventative maintenance procedures are written with detailed and revised as necessary on all ammonia equipment.Ensure operating procedures are written on all ammonia equipment and are maintained current and accurate and updated as often as necessary.Ensure operating procedures are certified annually to be current and accurate. Assist in environmental issues related to the Ammonia Refrigeration System. Provide PSM leadership across all shifts in establishing, organizing, planning, and implementing PSM program and corporate ammonia initiatives.Ensure Refrigeration Operators are trained, and training is documented according to the Training Element and site-specific Training Total Curriculum.Revise the facility PSM program according to Kwik Trip, Inc. PSM Team revisions that are sent out periodically.Ensure appropriate PSM documentation and procedures (i.e. MOC, Line Break, and PHA) are followed on all ammonia projects.Coordinate associated ammonia best practices across the plant and facilitate continuous improvement.Have access to up to date “Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices.”
Expected Experience & Required Skills
Be proficient with Word and Excel software applicationsAutoCAD experience is helpfulHigh School Diploma (or equivalent) required.A minimum of five years working experience with ammonia refrigeration systems and associated PSM requirements is preferred.Working and technical knowledge of refrigeration and maintenance systems, equipment installation/startups and plant utility equipment is preferred.Experience working with vendors and contractors is preferred.Individual must be knowledgeable of company safety policies and procedures.Individual must have good interpersonal and team skills to function as a team member and leader.Individual should have good organizational skills, be detail oriented, self-motivated and possess good leadership skills.
Work Environment & Schedule
This position is considered a Manufacturing plant environment with heavy machinery and equipment. Additionally, this role requires to work 1st shift hours and occasional overtime and weekends. Open to discuss flexibility.
Physical Qualifications: Stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch and occasional transporting heavy objects, lift carry up to 50lbs., pushing, pulling, scaling heights, accessing high objects, accessing low objects, keyboard or text input, balancing, fine movement, repetitive motion.
