Overview We are seeking a full-time Process Technician 2 in our Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with Process Engineering in implementing, improving, and providing feedback in current and new manufacturing processes to ensure compliance and meeting production standards. Board Assembly Team: The Board Assembly Team (BAT) is responsible for the production of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) for Garmin’s products. The PCBs are assembled using highly automated equipment due to the complexity of certain designs and the amount of volume that is required on a daily basis. The Process Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting all areas of PCB assembly, responding to manufacturing issues as they arise and ensuring that all processes are followed as defined by the Process Engineering team. Mechanical Assembly Team: The Mechanical Assembly Team (MAT) is responsible for the unit level assembly and packaging of Garmin products. Most of the units are assembled in a work cell environment by manual methods of assembly. The Process Engineering Technician’s main responsibility is to support work cell areas so that they may produce the highest quality product as planned by the Process Engineering team. This work may include tool control and procurement, work instruction creation, the manual layout of work cells and the equipment they require, and multiple responsibilities in the Pack and Accessories areas. Automation Engineering Team: The Automation Engineering Team (AET) is responsible for implementing robotics and automated solutions at Garmin. The Automation Process Engineers will collaborate with our design engineering teams to ensure Design for Automation considerations are part of the New Product Development Process. The Automation Engineering Team will act in the role of internal integrator as the subject matter expert in robotic solutions and will select equipment, design, implement and test solutions to improve an existing process or launch a new process in Garmin’s operations. Automotive OEM Team: The Automotive OEM (AOEM) Engineering Team is responsible for designing and improving processes that support the production of Garmin products that serve the Automotive OEM industry. The production environment, including the production of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs process tech) and mechanical assembly of units, will be highly automated to account for high volume and quality requirements. In addition to the functions listed above, the Process Technician will serve as a first responder to mechanical or quality concerns and be responsible to facilitate any maintenance activities or adjustments to the equipment or process. Salem Operations Engineering Team: The Operations Engineering Team in Salem is responsible for supporting all levels of production in the factory. Process Engineers work to design and improve processes that ensure products are built correctly and at the highest quality. The Process Engineers design assembly and test work cells as well as automated assembly and processing lines using DFT principles. Process Engineers are responsible for setting up and programming automated equipment in SMT, THT, and Unit Assembly production areas, and for creating process instruction documents. Process Engineers may also have assigned product ownership, ensuring consistency and communication when managing production quality or throughput issues. Essential Functions Partner with Process Engineers by providing input in procurement and/or design of components, the fabrication of equipment or tooling and the implementation of process improvements Develop, plan or apply expertise to develop and continuously improve production methods including layout, flow, tooling and production equipment, material, fabrication, and assembly methods requirements Create rework shop order work instructions and routings Create, update and maintain work instructions, and implement Engineering Change Orders Train manufacturing associates with the setup, operation and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment Take ownership for special projects, as assigned Coordinate and/or perform preventive maintenance on production equipment Apply statistical methods to analyze product or process performance Design, construct and manage production tools, jigs, and fixtures in accordance with documented Engineering requirements and Lean principles such as Poka Yoke Train production staff Control expenditures within limitations of project budget Prepare recommendations for reorganization of work cells and job duties to increase efficiency and eliminate excess processing steps and labor costs Manage production metric data, prepare reports and present to peers and management Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure associate safety Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards Basic Qualifications High School Diploma or GED AND a minimum of 7 years related production experience OR a combination of education and experience Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel Demonstrate the ability to mentor level 1 technicians Demonstrate ability to flex into different production areas. Must possess the ability to lift up to 55 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques and standing for an entire shift. Desired Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Electronics, Industrial, or Manufacturing Technology or a substantially related field Previous experience with automated assembly and testing equipment Previous experience with computer aided drafting (CAD) applications Previous electronics soldering experience Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
