Schedlue M-F 7:45am-4:15pm
3.1 Responsible for the set-up of molding components.
3.2 Responsible for the set-up and start-up of production machines including conveyors, secondary bottle handling equipment, vision systems, leak detection systems, SPC systems, etc.
3.3 Submission of bottles for first article approval to QA.
3.4 Makes stable, repeatable, properly tuned processes of production machines.
3.5 Makes necessary adjustments to tooling and machines.
3.6 Safety:
3.6.1 Maintains all machine guards and safety circuits to original condition.
3.6.2 Makes safety the first priority in all activities.
3.6.3 Supports the efforts to maintain and improve overall machine condition.
3.7 Completes mold PM’s, tooling evaluations, cleaning, assembling and installing molding components and related equipment.
3.8 Inputs data into the Mold Data Bank System.
3.9 Strives for constant process improvements, production efficiency improvement, and scrap reduction.
3.10 Knowledge of and utilization of the Mattec System and its SPC capabilities.
3.11 Assists the Production Group Leaders in process improvements.
3.12 Assists in the shipping and receiving of molding components.
3.13 Assists in maintaining the desired inventory level of the department’s materials.
3.14 Completes start-up reports and machine set-up sheets.
3.15 Contributes to the team effort.
3.16 Supports and adheres to all Berry safety policies.
3.17 Follows and supports all Berry GMP’s, maintains housekeeping standards in ownership areas.
3.18 All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications4.1 Skills
4.1.1 Must have extensive expertise and be a technology specialist in a minimum of 1 of the 2 process disciplines. This will include troubleshooting machines, repairing molds/machines with the ability to perform start-ups and successfully submits first articles.
4.1.2 Stretch Blow Molding Process (SBM):
4.1.2.1 Must be able to set-up molds utilizing a full working knowledge of the mold set-up procedures.
4.1.2.2 Install and level molds using precision leveling equipment.
4.1.2.3 Install air, water and make electrical connections.
4.1.2.4 Properly install and align stretch rods and perform tooling alignment as well as extruder to sprue bushing alignment.
4.1.2.5 Set-up all Proco tooling and bottles handling equipment.
4.1.2.6 Troubleshoot process problems and provide a proficiently tuned process.
4.1.2.7 Perform mini-first articles.
4.1.2.8 Must be able to identify machine problems and be capable of communication to the Maintenance Department in writing via a Maintenance Work Order and verbal communication.
4.1.2.9 Operates machine controls as needed for tooling installations and mold heat operation verification.
4.1.2.10 Knowledge of the PET resin dryer’s operation, troubleshooting and impact to the process.
4.1.2.11 Performs set-up/start-up within allotted time frame.
4.1.3 Extrusion Blow Molding Process (EBM):
4.1.3.1 Must be able to set-up molds utilizing a full working knowledge of mold set-up procedures.
4.1.3.2 Install and level molds using a precision level.
4.1.3.3 Install air, water and make electrical connections.
4.1.3.4 Install blow pin assemblies and adjust speeds and heights to blow molds.
4.1.3.5 Properly install strippers, cutting rings and other related items.
4.1.3.6 Install extrusion head on machine, level and secure to machine using proper methods.
4.1.3.7 Install and zero head tooling.
4.1.3.8 Set-up all Proco tooling, leak detection and bottle handling equipment.
4.1.3.9 Perform scheduled PM’s of screws, barrels and head cleaning.
4.1.3.10 Troubleshoot process and provides a proficiently tuned process.
4.1.3.11 Perform a mini-first article.
4.1.3.12 Identify machine problems and be capable of communicating to the Maintenance Department in writing via a Maintenance Work Order and in verbal communication.
4.1.3.13 Operate machine controls as needed for tooling installation and mold heat operation verification.
4.1.3.14 Perform set-up/start-up within allotted time frame.
4.2 Integrated Injection Stretch Blow Molding Machine (SIPA)
4.2.1 Must be able to use precision measurement equipment as needed for mold assembly, installation and final bottle measurement.
4.2.2 Identify tooling defects.
4.2.3 Assist in researching customer complaints.
4.2.4 Must interface with all personnel in a positive manner.
4.2.5 Must have knowledge of and follow Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
4.2.6 Be able to identify and report violations and unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
4.2.7 Full knowledge of and follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s). Maintain housekeeping standards at all times in ownership areas.
4.2.8 Follow all departmental procedures and directives.
4.2.9 Safety Work Badge Program must be followed.
4.2.10 Performs other duties and assignments as directed by the Supervisor or in his/her absence, the Set-Up Group Leader or Production Supervisor.
4.2.11 Provide leadership and direction for other Set-Up Group personnel and Production Group Leaders.
4.2.12 Share process knowledge with others.
4.2.13 Must provide tools to perform job functions.
4.3 Education and/or Equivalent Experience
4.3.1 Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a plastics environment.
4.3.2 High School diploma or equivalent.
4.4 Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
4.4.1 Must be able to work twelve (12) hours per day with three 15-minute breaks and one (1) 30-minute lunch. Must be able to work overtime on very short notice.
4.4.2 Obsolete – climate controlled
4.4.3 Must be able to work safely in the vicinity of open flames, hot plastic, oil and metal (at approximately 350-380 degrees). There is possible exposure to dust and odors from various substances such as oil, molten plastics, degreasers and cleaning solvents.
4.4.4 Noise level is usually 90dB and above and requires ear protection.
4.4.5 Must be able to work around sharp edges of machinery and moving machine components.
4.4.6 Must wear the following personal protective equipment: rubber soled/ steel toed shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses, bump cap, gloves and forearm sleeves.
4.4.7 Will be required to lift on an occasional basis anywhere from 10-35 lbs. Must be able to carry approximately 35 lbs. for a distance of 100 ft twice a day on the average.
4.4.8 Must be able to stand on average 7 hours a day and sit one hour a day for breaks.
4.4.9 Must be able to detect visual defects in a bottle, such as texture, contamination, color and print clarity. Must be able to clearly distinguish shades in color.
4.4.10 Must be able to hear and recognize various sounds such as emergency machine shutdown alarms.
4.4.11 Bending and twisting at a 90 ° angle will be required about 50% of the day.
4.4.12 Must be able to read and understand all work procedures and instructions.
4.4.13 Must be able to write legibly in the Group Leader’s Logbook.
