Location: Chatham, NY
Pay: $28.95/hour up to $36.99/hour; based on experience
Shift: Swing shift- alternates one week, 7am-3pm and the next week 3pm-11pm & 3rd shift- 11pm-7am

About the Chatham Plant

Join the Chatham Sonoco Team! Where you will make a big impact with a collaborative team on global brands and products. The Chatham, NY site is around 100K square feet and has around 90 people and 30 injection molding machines.  We are primarily an injection molding facility that produces a vast array of products serving industries such as foodservice, wire/spool, filtration, construction, and medical.  Some of the customers we serve are McDonalds, 3M, Burger King, KFC, of the products we do make for McDonalds we are the sole supplier (over 40K locations). The plant is in a quiet town surrounded by a beautiful conservation area that provides scenic walking trails, fishing, kayaking and more. You will also find in Chatham a local theater and Brewing.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Focus on working safely and supplying processes and data to support an injury-free environment.Follow Division safety rules and demonstrate leadership in establishing and following Safe Work Procedures.Understand molding machine safety and participate in safety audits of new and existing equipment.Participate in new mold inspection, installation and setup.  Basic understanding of injection molding machine types and differences and ability to transfer processes to different machines utilizing key process parameters.Possess sound troubleshooting skills and technical aptitude in order to conduct systematic analysis of tooling, processes, and machines to solve existing problems.Understand fundamentals of developing a new process for a new mold and product (how to establish key cycle parameters to minimize overall cycle time and maximize process capability)Be able to troubleshoot an existing process using Systematic Molding knowledge and data from standard Process setup sheet.Work with Engineering to assist in new process development and Plant Productivity initiatives.Work with Shift Process Technicians to improve efficiencies of existing processes.Understand Quality system and be able to interpret data and how to adjust product variables using sound Injection Molding principles.Be responsible for accurate and thorough documentation and data communication.

What you should have:

Requirements/Experience

Five years of hands-on practical experience preferred. Minimum 2-year technical degree preferred.Must pass Work Keys Mathematics and Technical aptitude testing to be considered.Working knowledge of IQMS system and basic PC literacy is required.Must have Injection Molding, Plastics ExperienceRJG master molder certified (or equivalent)New mold start up and qualification: demonstrate knowledge and skill:Ability to develop DOEs for a robust process development – documents process development process for reportsAbility to perform PPAP, FMEA, IQ/OQ/PQCan determine requirements, supply proper information and submit samples for first article inspection report and capability studyCan interpret data from cap and shrink studies to determine changes needed to tooling and/or parts specificationsAdvanced knowledge for reading tooling and part printsCreating, modification, review and approval of standard operating proceduresAbility to run a shift to indefinite periods of time

Quality:

Proficient use of SP software including gage R&R, shrink curves etcUnderstanding of the capability study protocolCan supply proper information for the creation of the production specification fileUnderstanding and ability to use measuring equipment such a micrometer, calipers, test indicator, pin gauge, feeler gauge, bench center, tensile tester, heigh gauge, moisture analyzer, optical comparator
