The area is known for their manufacturing, farming (both livestock and grain), education, retailing, and wholesaling. Well-known as the home of Johnny Carson. Our location produces powdered and dehydrated meat and poultry products, for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for day-to-day supervision of an assigned team of employees who perform specific tasks as part of operations activities in a food-manufacturing environment. Responsible for communicating expectations, building accountability, and delivering desired results in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Assures employees complete tasks in accordance with relevant company and legislative food safety and food quality requirements. Demonstrates the Henningsen Foods Inc. competencies of Task Management, Improvement Focus, Professional Knowledge and Skills, Service Focus, Strategic Thinking, Teamwork, Communication and Influence, Leadership, and Drive/Motivation. Function as the Element team lead for Norfolk SRMP. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a core value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Support corporate strategy by assisting the development of team and individual goals, objectives, operational standards, and expectations for Safety, Quality and Productivity Build collaborative partnerships within departmental lines to achieve departmental and team results. Support continued process improvement. Provide insight and ideas in encouraging others to try new approaches to solve day-to-day opportunities and key business issues Supervise a designated work group by fostering a culture of continued learning and development. Assist employees in all daily functions including food safety, personal safety, product quality, GMPs, SSOPs and equipment operation. Perform job functions when employees are absent Drive individual accountability and ownership of results. Foster accountability for direct reports in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, and cost Enforce compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards Perform performance evaluations for employees at scheduled intervals Assist Safety Department in the investigation of accidents and injuries Understand business processes and execute direction based upon business priority and strategy under the guidance of management. Communicate and Influence, Leadership, and Drive/Motivation Inspect all paperwork generated for production lots for any inconsistencies or deviations prior to production lot completion Perform equipment Pre-Operation and Operational Sanitation inspection on a regularly scheduled basis Complete internal HACCP training Follow all SQF principles pertinent to your position as specified by the SQF Practitioner. Report all Food Safety & Quality issues to a Supervisor, QA Manager, or at Senior Manager. Assume personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Adhere to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality. Ensure regulatory compliance at all times Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED required One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 12 to 18+ months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Bachelor’s degree in Business, Safety or Quality – preferred Work Experience Requirements: Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment, systems, and tools, as well as productivity principles and practices. Familiarity with Continuous Improvement (CI) Principles, Production Processes, Quality tools, Material flow and management. Knowledgeable in the areas of safe work practices and GMPs Previous indirect experience with effective labor planning and scheduling Strong problem solving and decision-making skills. Good attention to detail and ability to prepare and give written and oral instructions. Multi-project/multi-tasking capability. Fundamental mathematical skills Ability to understand the overall business operation and the impact of decisions, performance, and behavior Ability to effectively listen, offer solutions and resolve concerns/issues Ability to establish and shift priorities as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and to work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
