We anticipate an opening for one Engineer role at the Nuclear Plant in Welch, MN. The base rate of pay for this classification will range from $46.97 hourly to $72.87 hourly.

We are hiring a Procurement Engineer (Engineer I, Engineer II, Engineer, or Senior Engineer) at our Prairie Island, MN location! This position is posted as hierarchy. The job description below represents the duties and responsibilities for the Engineer I level. Additional duties and responsibilities may be required for higher level within the hierarchy. The successful candidate will be hired into the level that is appropriate with their experience.

Summary

This opportunity is an entry level Engineer position or higher as a bargaining unit employee. Individuals in the position perform engineering activities within Supply Chain in support of safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the nuclear generating power plants. This includes the preparation and review of technical products, such as evaluations, reports, procedure changes, and resolution of corrective action issues.  During performance of tasks, the individual applies standard engineering principles procedures, and criteria, under supervision to complete work assignments.

This position directly supports the procurement, or purchasing, of technical goods and services for plant operation & maintenance and for plant modifications. This requires detailed knowledge about equipment, materials, and quality assurance requirements used in a nuclear power plant.   Additional job duties include resolving vendor material and documentation deficiencies and occasional participation in Quality Assurance audits of suppliers/vendors.

Responsibilities

Provides technical services to support Nuclear Supply Chain processes.

Manages Data-Governance, validates contract and purchase order requirements to ensure quality assurance requirements, and resolves receipt inspection issues.

Performs technical evaluation of replacement parts for suitability, dedications of parts for safety-related applications, and downgrades of nuclear safety related sub-components.

Supports value capture savings through material shelf-life extensions and other key initiatives.

Supports Supply Chain related inspections and audits.

Attend departmental and/or plant meetings and industry/fleet activities.

Attend Training.

May be required to travel to other Xcel Energy sites.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field from an ABET accredited college or university.

0-2 years of experiences or more based on engineering hierarchy or position level.

Ability to obtain and maintain qualification for unescorted access to Xcel Energy’s nuclear plants is an essential requirement of the position.

Required to support the Nuclear Emergency Response Organization per the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.

Incumbents must demonstrate satisfactory performance and progress in learning the skills and competencies to be an engineer in the nuclear utility business.

Engineer I = 0 years minimum experience

Engineer II = 2 years minimum experience

Engineer = 6 years minimum experience

Senior Engineer = 8 years minimum experience

Depending on assigned ERO responsibility, incumbent must live within 60-90 minutes of the Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant to ensure proper implementation of Emergency Response plan.

A condition of employment will be successfully obtaining and maintaining General Security Clearance and a Nuclear Security Clearance for unescorted access to Xcel Energy nuclear plants including successful completion of nuclear General Access Training (GAT) and the nuclear security screening process (typically consist of alcohol/drug screen, a criminal, history check, a psychological assessment, initial credit and background investigation and periodic credit & criminal history checks).

Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $46.37 to $75.05 per hour
