The Produce Inspector II performs daily inspections of all incoming deliveries and existing produce inventories to ensure product meets established quality specifications. The Inspector will make the decision to accept or reject produce based on processes consistent with PACA laws, driving customer satisfaction and minimizing returns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

The Produce Inspector II performs daily inspections of all incoming deliveries and existing produce inventories to ensure product meets established quality specifications. The Inspector will make the decision to accept or reject produce based on processes consistent with PACA laws, driving customer satisfaction and minimizing returns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Ensure produce quality that is received from supplier, stored in the warehouse, and shipped to our customers meets the specifications set by US FoodsPerform daily inspections of all incoming fresh produce deliveries and the inspection of all fresh produce in inventory within our coolersMake decision to reject or accept fresh produce at receiving and ensure appropriate processes are followed that are consistent with PACA laws when a rejection is necessary
Make decision to withdraw produce from inventory that does not meet the specifications set by US FoodsWork directly in conjunction with warehouse management to identify and address food safety concerns. Maintain records of inspectionsCollaborate with replenishment lead on dumps, damages and produce re-work decisionsCommunicate daily with the replenishment lead and warehouse manager on all issues related to fresh produce. Make recommendations on dump and damage or repackagingVerify Purchase Order quantities and inspect quality for all inbound perishable loadsInspect all inbound trucks for signs of pest and rodents before unloadingEnsure compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to receiving, storage, and shipping of fresh produce. Identify any issues to warehouse managementDocument temperatures of all inbound loads and report to warehouse manager and replenishment lead any violationsResponsible for checking for proper rotation of all produce inventory and perform daily quality inspections for all fresh produce items in inventoryPerform daily date checks and pull all outdated fresh produce from pick and reserve slotsComplete daily dump and damage report and give to warehouse supervisor or inventory controlOther duties as assigned.

Internal: 

Interact with Replenishment Lead, Drivers, Selectors, Operations

External:

Interact with Vendors, Suppliers, Third Party Consultants and Regulatory Bodies

                       

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training:  

High School Diploma or GED requiredMin 2 years experience in produce or other perishable receiving and inspection required

Related Experience/Requirements:  

Working knowledge of USDA Specs, Grades and Standards RequiredWorking knowledge of PACA laws requiredTechnical proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant applications/hardwareCompletion of US Foods Produce Inspector Course (within 60 days of hire)Ability to lift 50 lbsAbility to sit and stand for long periods of time
