Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

Make regularly scheduled visits to assigned departments to assess overall compliance with established policies, procedures and programs as defined by the company and the Produce Merchandising Department.

Assist the store associates in the proper execution of and adherence to each policy, procedure and/or program by providing necessary direction to insure successful compliance and offering continuous follow up to monitor and assure the successful maintenance of each policy, procedure, and program.

Verify the execution of weekly sales and merchandising plans as outlined in the Weekly Merchandising Notes. Provide direction to maximize sales and profits through superior merchandising, display tactics, tie-in merchandising and cross merchandising.

Train appropriate department personnel in the preparation, maintenance of required operating reports, records, schedules, operating protocols, production plans and work plans as required by the company.

Evaluate the financial performance of the department/s in his/her assigned stores with the goal of improving key metrics including meeting sales, margin and contribution objectives, inventory management, shrink management, proper wage control and supply management. Counsel store management and department management teams on ways to achieve the goals as defined by the company.

Assess labor requirements and evaluate the personnel in the departments of his/her assigned stores. Make recommendations to the District Manager regarding selection and placement of department personnel as necessary to effectively operate the business. Assist department managers in the selection and training of support personnel within the department.

Assist Department Managers with scheduling the available hours and developing plans for the most effective use of each associate’s time to maximize sales and maintain peak selling conditions throughout the day and evening hours.

Coordinate the company’s resources to maximize return on investment in all cases involving store refresh, remodels or new construction projects. Understand and execute all such plans associated with such projects and communicate regularly with the Operations team and the Director and/or the Lead Merchant of the department.

Act as a direct liaison between assigned store personnel and the Buying Team. Provide timely and accurate information regarding product quality, program implementation and all other pertinent information.

Visit, evaluate and report on all competitive practices in assigned areas. Inform the merchandising department of all programs, developments and conditions that might affect the sales or profitability of the assigned department.

Carry out special projects or assignments as requested by the Produce Director or the Lead Merchant of the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will teach, train and mentor associates to achieve their potential.

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Business preferred, plus a minimum of three (3) years' experience in retail operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
