HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Product Applications Engineer is responsible for field testing and product placement, including prototype field trials, to support upgraded and new product development in the forestry harvester and lawn & garden product segments of our business.  This role also serves as a liaison between customers, end users, engineering, product management, marketing, and testing labs to ensure alignment between end user needs and product requirements in new product development.  A key responsibility of this role is using expert knowledge of customer applications and usage to ensure voice of customer is translated appropriately into engineering specifications, and that product testing accurately reflects customer use cases. This position is accountable for identifying new opportunities for current product improvement based on market direction and customer needs.

 

THE DETAILS

Product and Market Expertise – Develop industry knowledge to inform engineering, conduct field tests, gather customer insights, and communicate findings to internal teams for technical and commercial decision-making. Engineering and Product Support – Translate customer needs into design targets, ensure standardization in testing methods, contribute to design reviews, and support engineering projects to enhance product development. Communication and Collaboration – Facilitate open communication between technical service teams and engineering, lead plant and lab visits, provide technical direction, and support sales training for new product launches. Process Standardization and Market Insights – Establish standardized test protocols, monitor market trends, assess competitive landscape, and recommend improvements to engineering and product management teams.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Education & Industry Experience – Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience, with 3-5 years of hands-on experience using forestry and/or lawn & garden cutting products in lab or field environments. Technical & Problem-Solving Skills – Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to analyze complex systems, anticipate and resolve technical issues, and apply creative thinking to product challenges. Communication & Collaboration – Effective verbal and written communication across all organizational levels, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work with globally dispersed teams. Adaptability & Project Management – Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment, demonstrate flexibility with change, maintain attention to detail, and proficiently use Microsoft Office tools.

 

AVAILABILITY

Available to work on site during assigned shift Eligible and available for domestic and international travel, as required by job Travel will average <20% throughout year but may necessitate occasional multiple-day trips away from home Local (Oregon and Washington) travel will require a personal vehicle capable of accessing off-pavement logging roads

 

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Washington, Colorado, Nevada, California, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, Oregon Tool is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Oregon Tool, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $85,000 - $115,000.
