**About the Role**
We’re seeking a talented and dynamic attorney to join Uber’s Legal Team supporting Membership and Direct—two of Uber’s most innovative and fast-growing lines of business. This role offers the opportunity to partner with cross-functional teams to provide legal guidance on cutting-edge product development, subscription services, and delivery solutions.
You’ll play a critical role in shaping the legal and regulatory strategies for these verticals, tackling complex compliance challenges, and helping to drive innovation. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to learn new topics, solve complex legal problems, and contribute to some of Uber’s highest-growth areas.
Ideal candidates will have experience in shipping laws, subscription laws, and/or direct engagement with regulators.This role can be based in any of our regional hubs: Washington, D.C.; San Francisco, CA or Chicago, IL.
**What you'll do**
- Provide strategic legal counsel to product managers, engineers, designers, and operations teams on Membership and Direct products, features, and initiatives.
- Navigate legal frameworks governing subscription services, including auto-renewal laws, consumer protection, and privacy regulations.
- Conduct legal reviews of new products and features, evaluating risks related to compliance, consumer protection, privacy, advertising, and commercial law.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws governing shipping, delivery, and subscription services.
- Collaborate with regional legal teams to align global product strategies and manage the legal aspects of product launches in multiple jurisdictions.
- Draft and review terms of service, FAQs, disclaimers, and policies that govern Uber’s products and services.
- Develop innovative legal strategies to enable Uber’s growth in delivery solutions, while managing risk in evolving markets and regulatory environments.
- Support regulatory team in engaging with regulators and monitoring upcoming regulations that may impact product launches.
- Create and implement scalable policies, processes, and best practices to deliver consistent and efficient legal guidance across teams.
- Advise on global market expansion, comparing legal frameworks across jurisdictions to support Uber’s product goals.
- Provide thoughtful, timely, and strategic legal advice to help Uber stay ahead of challenges and opportunities in these fast-paced verticals.
**Basic Qualifications**
- Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience in private practice, in-house and/or government OR 4 years, including +1 year Uber internal.
- J.D. and license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience in shipping laws or logistics, or on-demand delivery services, including regulatory and compliance issues related to gig economy platforms or marketplace businesses.
- Expertise in subscription services laws, including auto-renewal, consumer protection, and privacy regulations.
- Prior engagement with U.S. regulators, particularly the FTC, on product or compliance-related issues.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience building relationships and credibility across legal, product, engineering, and business teams.
- Familiarity with global markets and comparing regulatory frameworks across jurisdictions.
- History of resource efficiency, including management of in-house counsel, outside counsel, and technical resources.
- Exceptional communication skills, with an ability to distill complex legal issues into actionable guidance for non-legal audiences.
- A growth mindset, eagerness to learn, and passion for solving novel legal challenges.
- Curiosity, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.

For Chicago, IL-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$187,000 per year - USD$208,000 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$208,000 per year - USD$231,000 per year.
For Washington, DC-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$208,000 per year - USD$231,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits. Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber’s cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office.
