Job Description Summary:

PayPal's Developer Experience Design team is seeking an Interaction Designer to craft exceptional visual and interaction experiences for our developer products. This role focuses on pushing the boundaries of developer experience design while maintaining usability and clarity. As a key member of the team, you'll be responsible for designing the next generation of tools, platforms, and experiences that empower our developer community to create, innovate, and integrate with PayPal's APIs, products and services with ease.

Key Responsibilities:

Create and Iterate on Design Artifacts: Lead the creation and rapid iteration of low-fidelity design artifacts (user flows, wireframes, etc) to gain alignment on requirements and features.UI Design Excellence: Create beautiful and sophisticated UI designs for developer-facing products, including documentation, dashboards, and tools.Define Interaction Patterns: Define consistent interaction patterns that make complex technical workflows more intuitive, while helping to evolve PayPal's developer experience design system.Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with engineering, content writers, UX researchers, and Design Technologists to ensure designs are technically feasible, backed by real data and content, and validated through customer contact. Advocate for the voice of developers in product decision-making.Design Leadership: Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.Stay Current with Industry Trends: Keep abreast of emerging trends in developer tools, frameworks, and best practices. Apply knowledge of current and future technologies to continuously improve PayPal's developer platform and experience.

Examples of Day-to-Day Work

Creating wireframes and user flows for a new interactive support wizard experience that helps developers find relevant documentation and create support tickets

Collaborating with Design Technologists and content strategists to redesign the developer portal side navigation with improved information architecture and interaction patterns

Designing and iterating on UI mockups for a PayPal integration upgrade flow, incorporating feedback from engineering and product management

Qualifications:

Design Expertise:

Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design and interaction design skills

Experience designing complex web applications or platforms, especially in a B2B/Enterprise context

Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, and usability, including familiarity with formal evaluation heuristics and best practices

Excellent visual communication and presentation skills

Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies

Expertise with Figma or other modern UI design tools

Experience working within and helping to evolve design systems

Familiarity with web front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

Communication & Collaboration:

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present design concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Experience in working closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders in a collaborative, agile environment

Problem-Solving & Innovation:

Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems through design

Passion for improving developer productivity and experience with a strong focus on making tools and processes more intuitive and efficient

Experience:

You will likely need 5+ years of experience to be ready for this job. This ideally includes 3+ years of experience in a developer-focused position, or in a similar design technologist role.

Nice-to-Have:

Experience designing developer tools or technical products

Experience with interaction & motion design tools (Rive, AfterEffects, Framer)

Knowledge of web and mobile development principles and constraints

Understanding of API design and documentation

Prior experience working within fintech, payment systems, or a similar technical domain
