JOB OVERVIEW

The Research and Development Product Designer uses engineering principles to design, model, and document the creation of the most innovative golf clubs. In this role, you will create 3-D CAD models for use in analysis, thought experiments, and testing. This role will require a high level of proficiency in document control, time management, and cross-functional collaboration.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Create concept design geometry using knowledge of all available design tools in conjunction with sketches, physical mockups, and measurements.Explore new golf club design concepts as part of assigned project teams.Explore form and function opportunities relevant to enhanced performance and aesthetics.Define the design specification for the realization of innovative designs.  Champion prototype fabrication activities.Blend performance, aesthetic, material, and fabrication process influence detailed concept design models as part of project teams.Drive interaction between designers and analysis engineers within the Innovation team and the Product Design Development teams.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Knowledge of golf club design features critical to performance.Knowledge of golf club head shape parameters (i.e. design parameters of face, sole, toe, hosel, etc.).Knowledge of common golf club head construction methodsKnowledge of golf club testing and evaluation methods; specifically relating to shape and mass property influence on performance and characteristics of club sound and feel.Ability to plan, analyze and interpret objective and subjective data.  Good critical thinking skills.Good written and verbal communication skills.Good working knowledge of office software products (MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).Knowledge of the physics of golf club performance.Knowledge of golf club design history and competitor models.Knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) products and/or Siemens Teamcenter preferred, alternate knowledge of Revision control and documentation requiredCAD experience, tools similar to NX, Catia, ProE/Creo preferred; Solidworks, AutoCAD, Rhino3DCAD modeling experience in solid modeling techniques; surfacing modeling techniques preferredAbility to reverse engineer a design from Scan data and/or hand measurements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

2 years of experience in golf club head design and development desirable.Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, or related field, or 4 or more years of related experience and/or training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable)

Work is performed in a designated professional office workstation and environment.Extensive use of office equipment to include computer, copier, and other business-related machines and software.
