Product Development Engineer

The Product Development Engineer will work under the Director of New Product Development & Engineering to develop and commercialize innovative solutions that meet our customer’s needs.  The Product Development Engineer will also be responsible to support and enhance existing products in the current portfolio. 

Essential Functions:

Supports existing legacy product lines through managing engineering change requests, quality enhancements, product improvements and supplier communications.Leads engineering effort on assigned projects including ownership of design, prototyping, testing, CAD, CBOM, and IP.Prepares 3D models and detailed engineer drawings in SolidWorks of complicated components and assemblies.Presents conceptual ideas and solutions to internal and external cross functional teams.Functions as a highly valued team player who works in cross functional teams to define design parameters and product goals.Establishes performance standards and develops/performs tests to ensure solutions meet design parameters and product goals.Uses the scientific method to assess problems and test solutions.Utilizes prototype fabrication and outsource resource management.Takes concepts from initial to final design determining appropriate process methods and material recommendations based on product requirements.Supports product launches throughout the entire stage gate new product development process.Keeps leadership apprised of work and ongoing issues.Supports other departmental engineering efforts as needed.

Skills and Abilities:

Education – Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.  Experience – A minimum of 3-years of experience in the following areas is preferred:Plastics processing including designing for injection molding, rotational molding, blow molding and extrusionsSheet metal designMetal fabricationDesigning for and working with additive manufacturing prototypesCollaborating with suppliersComputer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a high proficiency with SolidWorks 3D software and Windows based office software.  Also, experience with advanced analysis in areas such as FEA, Cycle Fatigue and Tolerance Analysis is preferred.Certificates & Licenses:  Valid driver’s license required.  SolidWorks or FEA certifications are a plus.Other Requirements – N/A

Work Environment:

Work is performed largely in office and manufacturing environments. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours (8AM-5PM) with at least 40 hours a week. At times there will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines, and other concerns. Occasional travel may be required.
