Based in Franklin, KY, with additional facilities in Riverhead, NY, and Bristol, RI, the Tapes business is a leading manufacturer of pressure-sensitive tapes (specialty, foil, film, and duct) and adhesives. Offering more than 1,500 specialty SKUs across 500+ distinct product families to its diverse base of 1,500+ customers, the Tapes Business provides specialty tapes and adhesives products to top customers serving the HVAC, Building & Construction, Industrial, Retail, Medical, Aerospace, Automotive, and other specialty industries.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE: Reporting to the Product Development Manager, the Product Development Engineer conducts processes for continuous development and improvement of products and product variances for the Riverhead, NY location -Specialty Tapes sector.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: 

Follow established Design Control procedures for development of new products and product variances. Design experiments, execute trials, develop and interpret data and perform application testing developing new products to meet customer and market demandsRun trials on the pilot coaters using solvent, emulsion and hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives and coatings.Implement product development projects consistent with corporate objectives; assure that project objectives are met and that projects are completed on schedule. Source, analyze and utilize new raw materials for the purposes of product innovation and cost reductions.Identify equipment and processing issues that affect processing, quality and performance while working with cross-functional teams on problem resolution and implementation. Preparation of finished good tape samples, operation of various analytical test equipment and data analysis for evaluation and presentation of new tape designs.Implement technical documentation packages, including raw material specifications, product specifications, stability and general technical data to support the introduction of new products.Perform additional duties as assigned by the R&D Manager.

Entrepreneurial and continuous innovation mindset requiredGeneral knowledge chemistry, chemical compatibilities, safety protocols & experience working in a laboratory or pilot setting.Proficiency with MS office to record and report data in a professional mannerAbility to travel as needed ( Limited)Excellent verbal and written communication skillsKnowledge in statistical methods and programs (SPC/DOE/MiniTab)Ability to prioritize, multi-task, be a proactive thinker, and results-oriented team playerProject Management experience required. PMP is a plusStrong organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneouslyStrong analytical and problem solving skills are required for data driven project management

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

BS Degree in Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry or related experienceThree-six years of experience in Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Tape, Adhesive or Release Liner design and manufacturing preferred.Competency in understanding process control equipment and the interrelations of processing conditions, vs final product performance.Competence in FTIR, DSC, Peel Adhesion, Tack and Shear testing and other analytical techniques. 

Compensation: $80,000 to $110,000 Annually. Salary commensurate with experience.
