Product Development Manager

Job Description Designs, develops and manages activities for a specific product or group of products from product definition and planning through production release. Serves as the central resource with design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, and marketing as the products are developed and released to production.

Product Development

1. Implementation of roadmap, strategy, and business models for assigned product and manage product lifecycle

2. Understand new ways to tap into the evolving market/industry development and dynamics

3. Collaborate with Marketing groups of various user segments to identify opportunities for products across their segments

4. Market products to relevant business partners

5. Develop and maintain good knowledge of customer working practices in relation to the use of 
products and services

6. Undertake ongoing market and competitor intelligence/research to identify and evaluate the 
potential of new product / market / application opportunities

7. Act as the ‘product champion’ internally, providing support and training to Sales & Marketing through internal briefings, responding to ad-hoc queries and tenders and ensuring that accurate product information is maintained (e.g. Product Briefings, Features & Benefits analysis, competitor analysis, pricing, ROI and TCO models)

8. Integrate consumer feedback into product design and enhancements

9. Identify areas of product differentiation

Product Management

1. Identify and manage launch of improvements to existing products

2. Work with relevant project managers to oversee all approved projects for own portfolio, ensuring that projects deliver the required features and benefits outlined in the business case on time and on budget and actively managing risks/issues that may occur to minimize their impact

3. Own the process for prioritizing defect fixes and small product enhancements to ensure that a 
good balance is achieved and that customer reported defects are assigned a suitable priority to 
maximize customer satisfaction

4. Review relevant user documentation and ensure that all changes to products are communicated 
clearly and fully to both internal and external customers to minimize queries raised

5. Manage product quality and cost

Identify opportunities for cost reductions and quality improvementsIntegrate consumer feedback into product design and enhancementsWork with Strategy & Operations to improve overall product quality

6. Measure and analyze existing products for opportunities to innovate and improve in features, positioning, price etc.

7. Aligns with other product houses on a regular basis to ensure alignment of products being developed.

8. Execute programs across applicable delivery platforms in coordination with Platform Management.

Product Delivery

1. Implement robust ‘product launch’ plans to ensure that each product meets its commercial objectives during its lifetime, working with Sales & Marketing to maximize revenue opportunities

2. Maintain a clear financial overview of product sales, revenues and numbers, development spend, etc. for individual products 

3. Work with third parties where appropriate to ensure the long-term success of product suite  

4. Work with Marketing to ensure that all related marketing collateral is clearly focused, with strong persuasive messaging and is consistently maintained

5. Work with Sales to identify early target customers for engagement, creating a plan to secure reference sites within a few months of the date of release

6. Monitor the status of development projects supporting new features

REQUIREMENTS:

A. Work Experience

• 8-10 years in product development, preferably in Telco industry

B. Level of Knowledge • Marketing with technical knowledge on communicAtions

C. Functional Competencies

Product Strategy Formulation

The ability to understand the impact of the market, consumers, producers, technology, and government on a Telco and apply it when formulating product strategy and the ability to identify prospective areas of synergy between products and CFUs when setting overall strategy so as to achieve customer acceptance.

Product Portfolio Management

Product Development Ability to stay attuned to the needs of the market and developments in the industry, specially competitive dynamics and to be able to translate these know-how into product innovations and new designs that is responsive to the needs of the clients

Product Financial Management The ability to manage revenues and costs (i.e. structures, allocations), with full understanding of the financial drivers, under conditions of uncertainty in order to obtain desired margins.

Knowledge of products and technologies § Ability to understand, apply and implement service deployment of all technologies, from transport to applications across fixed and mobile technologies.

Resource Planning

Ability to determine, validate and forecast the demand and supply of services to be able to build and maintain the necessary infrastructure to support these sevices at the proper service level.

Product Management and Development

Demonstrates skills and application of the end-to-end processes involved in the entire product life cycle, from development, maintenance, and enhancement.

Market Research and Analytics

The ability to liaise with third party research agencies and/or the ability to do informal studies/research in order to determine market behavior, appetite, needs, and challenges.

Research of general market demand for product being developed

Qualitative and quantitative research to refine the product specifications
