Product Homologation Product Engineer
Position Overview The International Motors Product Homologation team is a critical part of the Certification and Compliance organization, dedicated to ensuring that our vehicles meet all applicable regulatory requirements. We ensure that the necessary evidence demonstrating compliance is meticulously maintained throughout the vehicle development process. The Product Homologation Product Engineer is an essential team member, playing a key role in driving the success of this mission. This role represents Certification and Compliance on program teams that are implementing new technologies. The Product Engineer provides valuable regulatory expertise, identifies applicable regulations, assists with developing regulatory requirement validation plans, and reviews and approves compliance documentation. In addition to program-related responsibilities, the Product Engineer will act as the lead expert in assigned regulatory areas, contributing to regulatory program planning and strategy. The position is also expected to foster continuous improvement, manage regulatory agency information requests and audits, mentor less experienced team members, and serve as a technical resource within the team. Responsibilities Regulatory Identification: Identify relevant regulations that apply to programs implementing new technologies to ensure compliance. Compliance Plan Development: Work closely with engineering teams to assist in developing plans that create and document evidence demonstrating the regulatory compliance of new technologies. Compliance Documentation Management: Maintain a well-organized library of compliance documentation for assigned vehicle models and technology areas, ensuring all necessary regulatory evidence is up to date and easily accessible. Product Change Monitoring: Actively monitor product changes to assess potential impacts on regulatory compliance, ensuring compliance documentation is updated when required. Regulatory Agency Interaction: Manage requests from regulatory agencies and lead audits for assigned areas, ensuring the team meets compliance requirements and adheres to relevant regulations. Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical leadership to the Product Homologation team, guiding and mentoring less experienced team members to foster their professional development. Process Improvement: Identify areas where regulatory processes can be improved and implement ideas that streamline workflows, enhance efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies OR Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies OR PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies and/or computer science experience At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies Additional Requirements Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. International Motors does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status) Desired Skills Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of North American (US/Canada/Mexico) federal regulations and regulation interpretations for commercial vehicles. State and Provincial Regulation Awareness: Awareness of North American state and provincial commercial vehicle regulations and their application. Specification and Validation: Ability to create engineering specifications and develop validation procedures from regulatory text and guidelines. Phase-Gate Program Management: Understanding of phase-gate program management principles and the ability to successfully manage assignments within this framework. Emotional Intelligence: High level of emotional intelligence with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams and individuals who have different working styles. Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including handling occasional conflicting priorities. Objective-Based Approach: Capable of receiving assignments in the form of objectives and determining how best to use available resources to meet those objectives. Executive-Level Communication: Ability to communicate complex technical issues and solutions clearly and concisely to executive-level leadership.
