Product Manager (Solar/EVs/Energy Storage/Utility)
OPPD is seeking to hire a Product Specialist to join our dynamic Product Development and Marketing team! The ideal candidate will have a background in Engineering and experience with alternative energy technologies such as solar energy and electric vehicles. Electric utility experience is also a strong desire. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle management of one or more of OPPD's products and/or programs including alternative energy and electric vehicle-related (EV) offerings. This usually involves but is not limited to: managing and growing existing offerings, evaluating customer needs, creating designs that will address those needs and working with the teams who actually build the products to ensure they meet the intended goals. These products and programs would often include new and highly complex solutions. 1. Enterprise Collaboration and Awareness: - Regularly meet with peers across the district to gain knowledge of operations and insights that may result in future product enhancements or entirely new products. - Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights, understand current business processes, challenges, and opportunities and/or ensure product designs align with overarching business strategies, customer needs and product objectives. - Partner with appropriate cross-functional teams to design and deliver well-crafted products in a highly iterative delivery approach. - Support marketing partners in development of go-to-market strategy, communication of release notes, and market positioning of the product offering. - Engage closely with the technology, engineering and fulfillment teams to determine the best implementation methods as well as a reasonable implementation schedule. 2. Customer Insights and Product Subject Matter Expert (SME): - Perform market and customer research to stay up to date on market transformations and customer needs, which results in building business value around enhancing existing products and creating new products. - Act as internal and external customer advocate, defining user problems and needs-based solutions by leveraging qualitative and quantitative data and analysis. - Maintain a working knowledge of the assigned products and the communities and customers they serve. - Stay current on potential solutions and technologies in the marketplace to evaluate how they could be valuable to customers in a future offering. - Develop knowledge of assigned product specifics/metrics (costs to build and maintain, delivery costs, client's willingness to pay, market size, etc.) to determine product priorities, areas of focus, resource allocation, and product portfolio success. - Cultivate a working knowledge competitors, threats, and partnership opportunities within the assigned product landscape. 3. Product Strategy and Roadmaps: - Represent the voice of the customer. - Develop the vision, strategy, and roadmap(s) that deliver new products and features that move us toward achieving our company goals and customer's needs. - Focus on understanding the problem and assessing the Product/Market Fit, including overall market potential, target markets, and industry trends. - In collaboration with the product development team, participate in the development of new solutions from concept to implementation, with a focus on customer value, adoption and user satisfaction. - Develop the business cases including cost benefit analysis and champion the effort to build consensus and approvals including resources and budget needed to bring the product to market. - Identify market opportunities and define product vision, strategy, and goals, including the development and maintenance of product and program specific multi-year roadmaps of established priorities. 4. Establish Goals and Monitor Performance: - Continually drive product adoption among the customer base and target market, understand pain points and problems and address them in a timely fashion, with a constant eye on maximizing the ROI for the product. - Responsible for setting and achieving product line performance with developed targets on participation, revenue, cost & margin. - Oversee the product performance reporting throughout lifecycle including product strategy, product planning and issue prioritization. - Use data to define and maintain product roadmap for their respective area(s). - In partnership with the team's analyst, prepare and maintain a profit and loss statement, product scorecard or other form of transparent documentation on product performance. 5. Lifecycle Management: - Responsible for management of assigned product suite. - Manage products through their entire lifecycle including ensuring products remain relevant and current to achieve desired goals. - Foster positive relationships with organizations who are key collaborators in the assigned product landscape. - Manage product operations for adherence to agrees upon terms between OPPD and applicable vendor(s). Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing or related field. - Five (5) years of experience in a product management, program management, product development or related field. - Ability to clearly communicate and drive product strategy, direction, and vision; maintains the roadmap and strategy for the product in sync with that for the product-line and the overall OPPD vision. - Developed verbal & written communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint). - Strong business analysis and problem solving skills. - Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent consumer facing products. - Proven ability to innovate and come up with ideas to help drive products forward; comfortable presenting ideas and concepts. - Strong financial aptitude and data analysis skills related to business case development, ROI models, and product trending. Desired: - Experience with electric utility industry and related technologies. - Demonstrated experience with Lean-Agile principles, metrics, and technology and/or experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Lean Thinking, Lean Six Sigma. - Certifications in Product Management from Product Development Management Association, Association of International Product Marketing & Management or related organization.
