About the Role:

Planet is seeking a dynamic and experienced Product Marketing Manager to spearhead the go-to-market strategy for our Tanager hyperspectral data products. As part of Planet’s cutting-edge Earth observation portfolio, Tanager-1 is designed to provide some of the highest-quality commercial hyperspectral data on orbit. Tanager has been optimized to detect and track methane emissions, providing critical insights for environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and sustainability initiatives. In this role, you will work closely with the Tanager Mission and product teams to position these capabilities in the market, shape messaging, and drive customer adoption across industries including energy, civil government, agriculture, mining, environmental science, defense, and other commercial enterprises.

This role demands a strategic thinker who can translate complex technical details into compelling value propositions for a diverse customer base. The range of potential applications for hyperspectral data is vast and a key part of your role will be to help identify which opportunities (beyond methane detection) are the best fit for our capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of remote sensing technology and its applications, particularly in climate and emissions monitoring, energy, defense, and industrial markets. You will be instrumental in driving the adoption of Tanager’s capabilities further establishing Planet as a leader in the hyperspectral market.

This is a full-time, hybrid position and is expected to work from our San Francisco HQ approximately 3 days per week.

Impact You'll Own:

Develop and execute the go-to-market strategy for the Tanager hyperspectral product line, including market analysis, competitive positioning, and messaging. Collaborate with the Tanager Product team to understand product capabilities and translate them into clear, concise value propositions for customers. Work with the Mission Director and Product to refine the program strategy and lead efforts to identify and prioritize promising commercial application areas for hyperspectral data. Collaborate with the Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to create compelling materials, including website content, datasheets, demos, presentations, and case studies, to support sales and marketing efforts. Drive awareness and thought leadership through whitepapers, webinars, and industry engagements. Partner with the Product and Commercial teams to develop enablement tools and training materials. Drive product launches and ensure successful market adoption of Hyperspectral data products. Monitor market trends and customer feedback to inform product development and marketing strategies. Represent Planet at industry events and conferences, showcasing the Tanager product line and building relationships with key stakeholders.

What You Bring:

Bachelor’s degree. 6+ years of product marketing experience with a track record of driving go-to-market strategies for technical products. Ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives that resonate with different audiences. Ability to analyze market trends, competitive landscapes, and customer insights to shape GTM strategy. Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

What Makes You Stand Out:

Deep understanding of Earth observation data, especially hyperspectral data applications in agriculture, energy, climate monitoring, and defense.
