Product & Project Cost Engineer

Summary:

The Product & Project Cost Engineer is responsible for estimating costs associated with Giddings & Lewis products and services.  This position is also responsible for maintaining the cost database and oversight of product cost reduction activities, assisting with new product development costing.

Scope and Responsibilities:

Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:

 

Main point of contact for requests from the internal sales group to provide a cost build-up for standard OEM products, projects, and special feature requests.  Provides accurate cost projections that support management’s decision-making process.  Analyzes project content and makes recommendations for content to meet customer or project requirements. Administers Special Feature Request process including conducting SFR meetings with sales, engineering, purchasing, and other departments as appropriate.  Maintains SFR database and facilitates changes as necessary.  Creates timely, itemized, cost and delivery estimates for SFRs in conjunction with associated department representatives.   Responsible for reviewing and maintaining costs in the quotation database regularly. Makes recommendations for improving product cost, e.g. vendor selection, standardization or process change. Collaborates with engineering, technical sales, manufacturing, and purchasing. Requests proposals from vendors and/or purchasing as required. Responsible for the completion of the Formal Management Review (FMR) cost spreadsheet.  Establishes project budgets and cash flow projections in the FMR for review and approval by the executive management team.   Analyzes and evaluates project risks.  Formulates and directs risk reduction activities.  Uploads machine budgets into SAP. Participates in and provides analysis for product cost reduction initiatives. Works with engineering and management on new product development projects, attends meetings, assists with developing cost targets and reviews and provides updates to actual cost performance compared to targets. Analyzes material and labor actual vs forecasted cost for booked machines and explains variances at monthly management cost review meetings. Documents the current product costs, reports on the historical cost trends, and reviews cost savings or increases that could potentially impact the product's sales price. Awareness of ISO management systems 9001 and 14001

 

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred; or 3 - 5 years related experience Engineering or technical background desired

 

 

 

 

Skills Required:

 

Thorough technical knowledge of Giddings & Lewis products and processes Proficient with SAP Detail-orientated Working knowledge of all relevant Microsoft Office products Highly proficient in Excel Experience with Agile or other drawing databases to view drawings and bills of materials Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work with tight deadlines Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication Ability to work in a team-based environment, collaborating with others
