Position Description

The Production Engineer is responsible for the support of all manufacturing, production and assembly operations within the factory. The position requires responsive handling of requests filed by the manufacturing team regarding the company’s product, equipment or systems and resolving equipment malfunctions and fabrication errors. The position must understand the mechanical requirements of our product and process methods.
 

 

Major Areas of Responsibility

Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

Safety minded in all work activities; suggest and recommend safety initiatives; commitment to safe work habits, maintaining work are organized aligned with 5S. Work with Sales team and Layout Specialist to develop engineered to order product. Including writing necessary programs and develop paperwork/process for production to be able to produce product. Work with Production on any custom project to ensure a quality product reaches the customer. Analyzes data and processes to establish root causes of failure or malfunction of production equipment.  Develops solutions to resolve issues that hinder productivity.  Confers with management to bring resolution. Participates and assists in all stages of product development, including existing product improvement/enhancement as well as new product. Fabricate prototype products for design engineering to ensure producibility.  Interacts and supports internal and external customers regarding all areas of equipment or product performance.  Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates. Identify, research, and diagnose production implementation problems such as defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in systems functions, outputs, and content. Approaches projects and stakeholders in an empathetic manner to understand the needs and the best approach of how to accomplish the intended results in a collaborative way. Provide hands on installation and support for deployed solutions.   Point of technical escalation for Project Managers and other IT Resources during solution deployments.  Submit and manage Capital Expenditure projects. Be able to work independently and in a team environment. Managing a range of situations involving business stakeholders, vendor partners and technical resources. Participate in new idea generation process. Prepares and retains documentation of changes, adjustments or redesign of equipment and product processes. Maintains a safe, clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Recommend technology or computer aids, product design changes and workspace layout modification to existing production standards to achieve optimum quality and efficiency. Contribute to team effort by collaborating with members of engineering, quality and production as well as other departments.  Engage with quality, engineering and manufacturing regarding the non-conforming materials (NCM’s) process seeking resolution to issues that meet both the Company and customer’s expectations. Embrace a fast-paced environment that requires a sense of urgency in relation to the needs of both internal and external customers. Manage transition from old products being discontinued to new products being introduced.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfill the role:

Minimum, Bachelor Degree and 3+ years of experience in a similar engineering position Ability to read and understand machining & assembly drawings. Process improvement and development using quality tools (5-why’s, corrective action, 8-D, etc.) Design skills, project management, manufacturing methods and procedures Advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks, CAD-CAM software) Programming experience on various types of CNC (Vertical, Horizontal, and Multi-axis) Knowledge of optimizing cutting tools for the machining of aluminum Act as subject matter expert during the deployment of new initiatives Use analytical thinking to introduce new innovations to production processes The role requires both broad and deep technology knowledge and the ability to provide solutions to a customer’s technical business problem. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently. Ability to objectively review, understand and organize data. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers; problem resolution skills; understand competitive market; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a high-volume environment. Ability to work within a team is a must.  Planning, coordination and follow-up skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment required Detailed oriented, well-organized; self-starter; ability to work under minimal supervision. While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is primarily moderate to loud.
