Production Engineering Programmer

Job Purpose
As a CNC Production Engineering Programmer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and advancing our CNC machining and manufacturing processes. This technical role focuses on programming, process improvement, and hands-on support for our expanding machine shop, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, cost efficiency, and delivery.


Main Duties

Provide technical expertise in CNC machining methods, tooling, and work holding.Create, validate, and optimize CNC programs for a variety of machines (including 3, 4, and 5-axis equipment) using CAD/CAM software (Hypermill, NX, SolidWorks, or similar).Develop and improve manufacturing processes and procedures, with a focus on lean manufacturing and waste reduction.Support the shop floor with new programs, troubleshoot issues, and proactively seek process efficiencies.Engineer production requirements to meet manufacturing schedules and business needs.Interface between technical teams and shop floor personnel, ensuring seamless communication and workflow.Maintain accurate cost databases to support sales quotations and drive cost reduction initiatives.Produce detailed Methods of Manufacture for machined components.Undertake specific projects and support the Production Engineering Manager as required.Promote a culture of continuous improvement and uphold all Health & Safety policies.


 

Candidate Profile
We are open to candidates with a range of skills and experiences. The ideal candidate will be hands-on and technically minded engineer, with:

Proven experience in CNC programming and machining, ideally with both milling and turning expertise.Strong background in working with challenging materials (e.g., high-end tool steels, hard metals).A relevant, recognized apprenticeship e.g. engineering, turning, milling, and grinding, or the equivalent experience.Proficiency in CAD/CAM systems (Hypermill, NX, SolidWorks, or similar).Experience optimizing setups, reducing cycle times, and implementing lean manufacturing principles (5S, waste reduction, efficiency improvements).Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to process improvement.Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.Experience supporting and collaborating with shop floor personnel.Yellow/Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma or similar lean manufacturing qualifications is desirable.A team player mindset—valuing collaboration over hierarchy and enjoying close-knit, supportive working relationships.
