Compensation

The compensation target range for this role is:

$72,300 - $85,000

Job Summary

The Production Manager is an important leadership role in Production. They are accountable for achieving performance goals for key metrics including Safety, Quality, Throughput, Cost, Uptime, and Work In Progress (WIP). They support the Line Managers, safely, obtaining the best quality and efficiency. They ensure employees are safe and wear personal protective equipment (PPE). They assist where needed, keeping roll sheets updated and ensure shift changes happen seamlessly. They support the Operation Systems Managers to drive and coordinate daily 5S and workplace organization activities and ensure operator equipment maintenance duties are performed. The Production Manager helps the team surface problems and implements process improvements. They work closely with the Operations Systems Manager to ensure that L2L data is collected accurately, checklists are filled out and all managers/operators are up to date with training.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

Administrative Tasks 15%  

Evaluates Mattress/Peak build plans to ensure we are producing the correct products.  

Plans the most effective use of equipment and personnel to meet current and future production requirements based on sales volume and inventory (Kanban) levels  

Assign work orders on the train schedule to support production flow.  

Works with Line Managers to verify L2L data input is correct and done in a timely manner.  

Systematically completes inventory moves when needed.  

Audits Highjump production bins for accuracy.   

Uses data to identify areas for improvement and coordinates improvement efforts to respected value stream.  

Inspects attendance files for all Line Mangers for accuracy daily and ensures accountability policies are being followed.  

Hold Line Managers accountable for inspecting attendance files for all Operators for accuracy daily and ensures accountability policies are being followed.  

Updates Organizational Chart weekly and reports out to HR and recruiting teams.  

Monitors quality and initiates actions to prevent product or process nonconformities  

Ensures all safety related incidents are reported in Teams, Safety and upper management.  

Ensures all HR violations are reported to HR and upper management.  

Executes staffing plans and partners with HR in recruiting, selecting, and onboarding employees.  

Facilitates 8:15 meeting, going over goals and issues for current days Production for assigned shift with all departments in attendance.  

Reports throughput numbers, and goals to upper management for assigned areas.  

Employee Engagement 85%  

Be present on shift one (1) hour prior to start of assigned shift to set the example, assist Line Managers where needed, and support the production plan.   

Leads, motivates, and trains all Line Managers, creating teamwork and ownership of production results, processes and committees.  

Supports and assists Line Mangers in motivating and training Work Cell Leads and Operators to create a teamwork and ownership of Production results, processes and committees.  

Supports and communicates upper managements vision effectively with all Line Managers, Work Cell Leads and Operators. Pursues goals to achieve vision.  

Applies and trains 5S principles to assure a safe working environment for all production workers  

Champion Continuous Improvement tools, processes, methodology, and committees to help lead Purple to Future State.  

Conduct 1 on 1 sessions with Line Managers to build trust and set goals  

Participates in multiple daily Gemba walks with Line Managers and interacts with employees.  

Be engaged with all lines throughout the day to help build relationships of trust with all employees.  

Be firm, fair, and consistent with employee corrective action, discipline, rewards, and performance appraisals.   

Supports the Operation Systems Manager to ensure all 5s and L2L initiatives are being followed by direct reports and shift.  

Supports continuous improvement initiatives/ideas and provides a feedback loop.  

Supports quality in all steps of processes.   

Monitors quality and initiates actions to prevent product or process nonconformities.  

Confirms proper shift change overs are being conducted to ensure success.  

Is present on Production floor until all duties are completed for assigned shift.  

Perform other duties as required or assigned.  

 

 

Required Skills, Education, Experience: 

 

Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience 

2+ years managing a production line and team using Lean principles 

Lean Manufacturing certification or commensurate experience 

Experience successfully leading a large production team 

In depth understanding of production principles and general plant operations 

Capability to establish production goals, and methods to reach goals 

Ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional expertise and experience 

High School diploma or GED 

Preferred Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification 

5S Concepts Certification 

Proficient in Microsoft Office
