Production Supv. - 2nd Shift Mill/Blend/Pack and Ray FD

Job Summary

To supervise employees in the manufacturing of products to approved standards and specifications.
To direct plant operations and the performance of hourly employees to ensure that the plant is continuously operational and produces its maximum output at its optimum efficiency in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices, government regulatory statutes, and company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Ensure adherence to all quality systems including, but not limited to, ISO 9001, ISOFSSC 22000, ISO 14000, DS cGMP and Food Safety with an understanding of company’s Quality Policy and procedures.

Comply with all Company policies including, but not limited to, Quality, Safety, Food Safety, Environmental, GMP's, HAACP, and Attendance.

Supervise hourly employees in the production and/or packaging of all products to maintain volume requirements and in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.

Oversees sanitation activities in the area of management/supervisory responsibility.

Maintain and adjust the production process throughput to fulfill the production requirements throughout the area of responsibility.

Learn thoroughly the basic processes and principles associated with the production of products to develop preventative thinking and action.  Analyze and correct any deviations or changes in the process or raw materials to prevent deleterious situations from occurring.

Initiate immediate repair for the adjustment and maintenance of production equipment to keep the plant operating on a continuous basis.  Initiate work orders to correct equipment deficiencies during shutdown periods.  Report production and other problems to his/her/their immediate supervisor and others who may be affected.

Assist in training hourly and salaried personnel.  Assign employees to work stations in a manner to maximize use of staffing to meet production goals.

Ensure that all timetables, quality control standards, safety regulations, and FDA "Good Manufacturing Standards" are maintained.

Maintain hourly personnel records and plant production records as required.

Perform testing of materials and product in process operations and maintain necessary batch and log records as they pertain to production. Emergency and safety equipment.

Assist Process Development, Plant Engineering, and Research personnel on special trial or experimental production runs.

Provide communication between hourly personnel and management.  The Supervisor is responsible for providing information to both subordinates and superiors.

Perform weekend and holiday duties on a rotational basis with other supervisors.  These duties include 24 hour emergency call, equipment check, and lab work.

Perform other assignments and duties as directed by supervisor, including but not limited to, scheduling and preparation of production records, equipment maintenance and repair, shipping clerk, process operator, or lab analysts jobs in situations of extreme hourly employee shortages (absences, etc.).

Provide and foster a workplace that protects the health and safety of the employees and the environment.  Assist in maintaining a work environment that complies with all Heath, Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulatory and company guidelines.

Perform operation duties of other Product and Laboratory Supervisors with regard to plant functions in their absence.  Conduct special project assignments as related to process or product improvements.

Resolve problems causing production shutdown, substandard production, or low efficiencies whenever they occur.  This requires sufficient knowledge for identification of causes and decisive action.

Act with minimal guidance as he/she/they may be the only supervisor available in the plant on his/her/their shift.  Supervisors or manufacturing staff are usually consulted for unusual problems, but the incumbent will be expected to provide recommendations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

College degree (or equivalent relevant industry experience) in Dairy, Food, or Biological Sciences with a strong background in Microbiology.

Two or more years formal leadership experience.

Two or more years in a manufacturing operation in order to conduct process operation with skill and efficiency.

Working knowledge of Determinative Bacteriological methods to ascertain culture purity, identity, etc.

Detailed understanding of production equipment and its interrelationship in regard to product flow and production efficiency.

Ability to recognize and solve production problems and have a good mechanical aptitude.

Good human relations skills as well as good communication skills.

Understanding the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices, applicable Food and Drug regulations, and Company standards.
