General Summary

Assists in oversight of the daily operations and work activities of the Professional Coding team. Acts in a leadership role in the absence of the assigned manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating and monitoring work. Performs work of a Coder. May perform audits on other staff members' work. Reviews, maintains, reconciles and/or corrects a variety of reports. May interact with vendors and other business associates. May assist staff with coding, claim edit, and follow up questions, issues, and workflow. Acts as a resource for coding staff, Patient Financial Services, Customer Service, Project One, and practices. Assists in training new hires as well as training for existing employees as needed. Maintains knowledge of coding guidelines. Able to perform workflows in Epic with proficiency.

Establishes and maintains communication with ancillary departments/entities to facilitate problem solving and continuous process improvement. Assists in developing, establishing and maintaining policies, procedures and standards. Participates in educational programs and meetings. Provides outstanding service to all customers, fosters teamwork, and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

3 years Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

Certified Professional Coder Upon Hire Required or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based Upon Hire Required or Certified Medical Coder Upon Hire Required or Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

Specialty Coding Certification Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills and computer skills. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT Coding. You’re unique and you belong here.
