Professor of Law, Emphasis on Mentorship

The UCLA School of Law invites applications for a full-time, tenured faculty position at the Professor rank. As a public higher education institution in California committed to inclusive excellence, the UCLA School of Law has increasingly reflected the state’s gender and ethnic/racial composition, enrolling a growing number of students who identify as Latina. As such, we specifically seek scholars with significant academic distinction and extensive experience in mentoring historically underrepresented students, scholars, and/or practitioners, including, a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of Latinas in academia and legal professions. Successful applicants are expected to continue and expand on their track record of mentoring Latinas and other historically underrepresented students and/or legal scholars. Teaching and service expectations will not exceed those of other faculty positions. Applicants may demonstrate substantive expertise in any subfield of law, but we especially encourage applicants with expertise in legal issues relevant to women in Latinx communities.

UCLA aims to achieve federal designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) as early as 2025. In preparation for this designation, the Office of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost have sponsored this search in order to recruit exceptional scholars whose teaching, scholarship and/or mentoring has strong ties to Latinx experiences in the United States. This search is conducted in partnership between the Chicano Studies Research Center and the UCLA School of Law. Faculty hired through this search are expected to maintain an active affiliation with the Chicano Studies Research Center and encourage the success of Latinx and first-generation scholars and future legal practitioners.

All candidates must hold a J.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree in hand by July 1, 2024. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Please apply online via RECRUIT. Optional materials that may be submitted include a cover letter; statement of current research and teaching interests; a scholarly writing sample that best represents the kind of work you plan to do in the future; and teaching evaluations. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Table 8. The salary range for this position is Step 4 to Step 9 ($221,000-288,300). “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Academic Senate faculty positions will be subject to targeted employment reference checks.
