**23043BR** **Extended Job Title:** Professor or Higher Diabetes & Metabolism **Org Level 1:** Texas Tech Unv Hlth Sci Ctr El Paso **Position Description:** Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit **Requisition ID:** 23043BR **Travel Required:** Up to 25% **Major/Essential Functions:** + Builds and sustains an independent, externally funded research program + Embraces the vision of the new Center of Emphasis in Diabetes & Metabolism, engages in the Center's and Department's activities, and interacts with other members of the Center, Department, and Institution in a collegial, team-oriented fashion + Engages in optional part-time clinical service (up to one day per week) for M.D. or M.D.-Ph.D. applicants + Participates in team-taught courses in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and/or Paul L. Foster School of Medicine + Mentors medical and graduate students in research + Engages in service to the academic and regional community + Ensures compliance with all applicable institutional, state, and federal policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to research + Adheres to all institutional and departmental policies and procedures + Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility **Grant Funded?:** No **Minimum Hire Rate:** salary commensurate with related education, experience and/or skills **Pay Basis:** Monthly **Work Location:** El Paso **Preferred Qualifications:** + Research experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) islet cell biology, including beta-cell differentiation and regeneration, (2) mechanisms of insulin resistance and glucose intolerance, (3) metabolic consequences of sleep-disordered breathing, including sleep apnea, (4) genetics, genomics, and/or epigenetics of diabetes and related metabolic disorders + Board certification by one of the ABMS member boards and a full unrestricted Texas medical licensure for M.D. or M.D-Ph.D. applicants wishing to engage in optional part-time clinical service + Experience with grants and/or contracts + Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher **Campus:** HSC - El Paso **Department:** Ctr of Exc Obesity/Diabetes Rsch EP **Required Attachments:** Cover Letter, Resume / CV **Job Type:** Full Time **Pay Statement:** Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan.
