Job Title Program Aide Agency Texas A&M University Department Health And Kinesiology Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Temporary/Casual Staff (Fixed Term) Job Description What we want The Program Aide will support ongoing research projects investigating the regeneration, growth, and atrophy of skeletal muscle, which will be conducted by the Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory that is directed by Dr. James Carson in the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management. This position will assist in the design and execution of cell culture and preclinical experiments, tissue collection, and analysis, primarily working in a biological research laboratory setting. These can be uploaded on the application under CV/Resume.  Qualifications ​Required Education and Experience + Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Kinesiology, Biology, Physiology, Animal Science, or a closely related discipline + 2 years of related experience that includes working in a wet laboratory research environment and with cultured cell techniques in a laboratory environment in a university setting Preferred Qualifications + Experience in designing biological experiments, collecting data, and analyzing results + Skills in troubleshooting experimental designs or technical issues within the lab setting + Advanced skills in benchtop analysis of tissue protein and mRNA Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and requirements + Knowledge of equipment in a laboratory setup + Ability to manage laboratory equipment, conduct experiments, and maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others Responsibilities Conducting Biological Experiments + Assist in the designing, planning, and executing experiments using standard cell culture techniques related to muscle biology + Assist with experiments related to tissue analysis from completed preclinical mouse experiments + Ensures high-quality research results through integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance + Practice laboratory safety methods and operate laboratory equipment + Be able to troubleshoot routine lab problems, consulting available scientific literature when necessary + Learn and implement new lab protocols as needed. Assists with method development Data Collection + Accurately collect, process, and keep detailed records of data from experiments + Work with other graduate students in the laboratory setting to analyze data generated from research projects + Assist other lab members with ongoing biological data entry + Maintain a good working knowledge of all assigned protocols and reporting requirements Administrative + Assist with lab organization, animal protocol management, and ordering laboratory supplies + Manage lab experimental schedule, lab meetings, and abstract submission deadlines + Respond to emails and phone calls related to ongoing and planned laboratory research + Coordinate research progress with the principal investigator at weekly laboratory meetings + Assist the principal investigator in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies. Communicate with other laboratory staff daily to ensure successful completion of laboratory research, compliance with protocols, and selection of best troubleshooting approaches + Maintain an accurate laboratory notebook that details experimental procedures, laboratory protocols, and standard operating procedures used in conducting experiments Data Analysis + Analyze collected data using statistical software and techniques + Evaluate and summarize results to include in scientific publications, presentations, and/or manuscripts Who we are The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is committed to enhancing educational achievement and health outcomes, fostering innovation and development, and influencing policy and practice in the fields of education, health, sport, business and government.
