Utah State University Extension invites applications for a County 4-H and Family and Consumer Sciences Program Assistant II in Piute County, with additional responsibilities in the Create Better Health (SNAP-Ed) program. This is a non-exempt position at 0.75 FTE (30 hours per week).

 

Responsibilities may include planning and coordinating the day-to-day fiscal, administrative, and operational activities of the youth programs, such as planning day camps, developing educational activities, and managing volunteer recruitment, screening, orientation, training, support, recognition, and general data and fund management. The role also involves collaborating with community partners to improve healthy food access and physical activity opportunities, providing outreach and education through social media. Additionally, the position encompasses Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) work, including delivering educational programs related to nutrition, health, and wellness. Reporting program progress and impacts is essential, along with recruiting partner agencies and clients and adhering to federal guidelines and SNAP-Ed policies and procedures.

 

The incumbent will report to the Home and Community Extension Faculty in Piute County and an Extension Director and may include training and directing hourly/student employees and volunteers.

Responsibilities Writes, edits, and coordinates development of promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program.Deliver established and approved Create Better Health curriculum covering basic nutrition, food safety, food budgeting, and physical activity education to groups eligible for SNAP benefits.Conducts face-to-face classes on family and consumer sciences topics to members of the community.

Program Management and Reporting:

Monitor and administer program revenues and expenses; may develop or participate in the development of funding proposals for the 4-H program.Provide accurate and timely reports and evaluation data to the state office (for Create Better Health) and to … (for 4-H).Ensures completion of clerical and administrative support tasks, including creating, typing, and editing program correspondence and purchasing documents, reports, program handbooks, and other publications. May maintain and create content for program website.Preform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Outreach and Partnerships:

Serve as a principal liaison between 4-H youth, volunteers, donors, and community partners.Recruit program participants through various channels like personal contact, advertising, social media, and collaborating with agencies like DWS.Plan and coordinate with various organizations and agencies, including USU, DWS, WIC, local health departments, senior centers, schools, churches, and community organizations.

Event Facilitation:

Design, coordinate, and implement events and activities for the Piute 4-H Program.Facilitate workshops at public events like farmers’ markets, county fairs, and other community gatherings.

Compliance and Professional Development:

Understand and adhere to USDA and USU guidelines.Maintain confidentiality and comply with the code of conduct required by DWS.Keep certifications and trainings up-to-date.May train and direct lower-level staff, student employees, volunteers and/or graduate students. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience or an associate degree/technical training is required.Experience teaching and working with adult and/or youth audiences.Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office, Email, Social Media, CanvaAccess to reliable personal transportation with current insurance and valid driver’s license to meet with clients. Mileage will be reimbursed.Attendance at a two or three-day in-service training conference each year for Create Better Health, with additional travel necessary to transport and travel with youth to in-state and out of state events for 4-H.Self-motivated and able to demonstrate work independently and as a team member.Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with 4-H.Understanding of Create Better Health and SNAP-EdUnderstanding of family and consumer sciences topics (nutrition, sewing, food preservation, home arts, etc.)Implementing applied research and evidence-based activities. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to interact with youth, faculty, and/or volunteers in a team environment.Knowledge of information gathering methods and procedures.Familiarity with family and consumer sciences topics, including, but not limited to, nutrition, food preparation, textiles, parenting, and financial literacy.Skilled in organizing resources, establishing priorities and record maintenance.Proficiency in using educational technology tools to enhance teaching and learning.Knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.Knowledge in working in 4-H programming.Flexible hours.Ability to exercise high level of creativity, decision making, problem solving, and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.Skilled in use of personal computers and related software application.
