About the Department

The Summer Institute in Social Research Methods (SISRM) provides training and Research Assistantships to UChicago undergraduates (as well as undergraduates at partner institutions, such as Chicago State) during the 10 week summer quarter. This program is entering its 7th summer.


Job Summary

The job performs routine assignments related to academic, research, clinical or administrative programs. In addition, this job performs routine assignments related to non-technical (not information technology or construction related) projects from conception to completion. Assists with the assembly of teams and the development of detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports using straightforward problem solving skills.

Under the supervision of the Senior Program manager, the Program Coordinator provides administrative support for a set of interdisciplinary undergraduate programs in the Social Sciences Division, including the Summer Institute in Social Research Methods (SISRM) and several undergraduate minors. This position plays a key role in the successful planning and execution of the program activities for a summer workshop series, as well as academic year program recruitment, outreach, and digital communications.

Responsibilities

Completes program logistics for SISRM summer workshops and engagement activities for select minor programs. Includes space scheduling, catering, management of audio-visual and technological needs for live recordings, staffing both in-person and virtual events, scheduling and attending off site excursions.

Executes program coordination which includes facilitating SISRM’s annual call for faculty mentors and student RAs; assisting with RA matching; supporting mentorship program initiatives and workshops.

Develops and maintains student communications, including making website updates, creating digital flyers, planning and preparing social media posts and email announcements, and maintaining contact lists.

Performs course management and support for select minor programs and Summer Institute in Social Research Methods.

Coordinates business processes such as processing payments, maintaining budgets, and producing information for annual reports and grant applications.

Uses general understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries.

Plans and conducts quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.

Uses general understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries.

Interacts with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.

Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the social sciences or humanities.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Experience using Microsoft Office is essential; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, email distribution software (such as MailChimp), social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram),and website administration (such as WordPress).

Preferred Competencies

Work independently, effectively prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

Capacity to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion.

Demonstrates flexibility, eagerness to collaborate, and confidence to learn new systems.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide array of populations, including faculty, staff, students, and guests.

Strong proofreading and writing skills are essential; graphic design and video editing experience.

Working Conditions

Able and willing to work occasional evening hours.
