Program Coordinator
BACR's Career Pathways division is a multi-member team that serves as the link to paid internships, career growth and sustainability and post-secondary education. Coordinators ensure participants have an understanding of high-growth sectors and careers, training and college options, and immediate employment opportunities. Coordinators work with participants one on one and in cohorts in order to create participant-centered career and education plans designed to help them reach the short- and long-term goals that will lead to economic self-sufficiency. This role is in partnership with REACH. REACH Ashland Youth Center is an Alameda County non-profit organization that BACR is funded by to implement workforce and higher education services onsite designed to quickly and effectively facilitate a diverse array of job seekers to enter, re-enter, or advance in the labor market in a manner that maximizes their full economic potential. Alameda Co. Workforce and Reentry Programs include Probation Youth Employment Program, REACH Ashland Participant Center, and other Alameda County Probation funded youth programming that is focused on systems navigation, mentorship and civic and social engagement. These programs range in ages from 14-24+ years old. Program Coordinator is a dual role that works in both San Leandro AND Oakland that will require program coordination for REACH clients and Career and Academic Coaching as well as managing youth interns in paid internships inside and external to the center. The Program coordinator is responsible for the connection of clients ensuring that programming meets contractual deliverables. They will be accessible to young adults that are referred to the program and ensure that services are tailored to the needs of young adults, and that young adults are engaged in workshops and professional development training and professional case management through targeted outreach and recruitment. Career/academic coaching ensures participants have an understanding of high-growth sectors and careers, training and college options, and immediate employment opportunities. Program Coordinators work with participants one on one in order to create participant centered career and education plans, which are designed to help them reach the short and long term goals that will lead to economically self-sufficiency. Applicants should have experience serving the following priority populations: Justice involved, undocumented, disconnected from education, unemployed and underemployed, public housing residents of Alameda County, and pregnant and parenting youth and young adults. All applicants should be able to act with a sense of urgency, carry a caseload of up to 40 clients yearly no more than 10-15 at a time, should be confident with problem solving skills and be innovative in working with multi barrier youth. Applicants also should demonstrate confidence implementing professional development curriculum and facilitating workshops needed for internship success. Minimum Requirements: + Ability to work full time (Mon-Fri, rare but possibly some evenings and weekends) + Successful completion of Live Scan/fingerprinting (upon hire) + Bachelor’s degree or enrolled in degree granting program currently + 1+ years’ experience in the workforce field + 1+ years’ experience working with multi barrier high school or transitional aged youth + 1+ years’ experience with workshop facilitation/lesson planning and case management + Some previous experience with college counseling or college access support + Familiar with work-based learning quality standards + Must have excellent organization and leadership skills + Must have excellent oral and written communication skills + Must be familiar with the framework or practice of Youth Development + Comfortable working with teens, transitional age participants and adults 18 and older + Comfortable with presenting and public speaking + Flexible and able to adapt to changing environments (we work with Alameda County schools and partner organizations) + Reliable transportation + Familiarity with restorative justice and trauma informed care, a plus Desired Qualifications: + Successful completion of Live Scan/fingerprinting (upon hire) + High level of personal accountability for the quality and impact of work + Direct service experience and/or strong interest in working with youth (especially in workforce development or related field) + Ability to provide a consistent, professional, positive adult relationship to the youth we serve + Comfortable working with undocumented youth in the Bay Area + Ability to serve in diverse communities and as part of a team + Knowledge of Bay Area communities and career resources + Willingness and ability to take initiative + Experience with data entry and analysis Job Coaching, Career Advising and Job Development: + Utilizing work readiness assessments, create short term and long term educational and career plans + Ensure participant is meeting Career Action Plan goals with respect to employment and education + Coach participants throughout their subsidized work site placements. Meet with participants in person weekly, depending on need, to formally monitor their progress at their work sites. Check in via phone call, text and email on a daily to weekly basis for informal monitoring + Troubleshoot work site issues with participant, support and empower them to resolve workplace conflicts, provide one on one training as needed + Utilize industry standards to advise participant toward careers of interest and of growth + Conduct industry-focused assessments of participant to gauge their readiness in various career pathways + Meet frequently with case managers to ensure collaborative case planning. + Be available to participant who have completed active participation in the program to continue to assist in job coaching and advising, as needed + Connect with local employers to create internship and long-term job placement for participants + Attend weekly program meetings, monthly agency staff meetings, and individual weekly supervision with Manager of Career Pathways + Academic support, College Access and Post-secondary Retention: + Work with external service providers to ensure participant develop and maintain their educational plan + Provides college support for 1st year college students + Support students one-on-one to maximize financial aid, minimize loan debt, and make informed financial decisions about the best post-secondary option available + Empower students with the knowledge and skills to face future obstacles and access the financial aid that enables them to complete their degree with limited debt + Support and guide on the college enrollment process connecting them to resources to begin support with navigating the UC and CSU systems, along with FAFSA application process with each eligible student + Model and teach effective problem solving, self-advocacy, academic mindset, self-regulation, persistence, and positive behavior to all students on caseload Program Coordinator Responsibilities: + Develop innovative and effective services that enhance hiring opportunities and client professional profile + Focus on the special concerns of young adults who are justice involved/undocumented and serves as a point of entry for these participants into the public workforce system + Create bridge and comprehensive programs that enable young adults to gain basic and work readiness skills that prepare them for future career success. + Coordinate the smooth referral and transfer of clients and services between REACH Cost referral system, PYEP program and other referral systems. + Coordinate outreach and recruitment efforts for the REACH program, and disseminate information to the general public and/or prospective participants. + Coordinate services provided through BACR to REACH and other partner organizations. + Manage facilities to assure that operations are running smoothly and programming meets the needs of participants and employers accordingly. + Actively participate in collaborative service planning, implementation, and coordination with other Access Point providers and other workforce system programs and services, including communication, training, marketing and evaluation activities + Participate in REACH/ BACR meetings, trainings, peer exchanges, networking with community-based organizations, and other activities to enhance service coordination and capacity. + Collect and report data on a monthly basis About Us Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) promotes the healthy development of individuals, families and communities through direct services, volunteerism, and partnerships in the San Francisco Bay Area.
