Bachelor's in Human Services or related field, or High School Graduate with 4 years of job-related experience working with persons experiencing homelessness or behavioral health needs. May have lived in experience as a peer. Must have or gain Certification as a Peer Specialist.  Act 33/34/73 clearancesPre-employment Drug Test

SCHEDULE: (non-exempt/hourly position)

Full Time 37.5 hours a week to include day/evening/weekends and holidays as scheduled according to the Program needs.

ABOUT THE ROLE:  The Program Counselor is a key contributor to ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for shelter guests. This role focuses on managing the shelter environment, fostering positive relationships, and connecting individuals with the resources they need to transition into stable housing. The Program Counselor operates with professionalism, cultural humility, and strong crisis management skills to meet the diverse needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.

Core Responsibilities

Shelter Management: Maintain a safe and supportive environment within the shelter by addressing guest needs, resolving conflicts, and ensuring compliance with program policies.Relationship Building: Recognize the centrality of relationships in engagement efforts, building trust to guide shelter guests toward stability and housing.Resource Navigation: Leverage knowledge of social service safety nets, street outreach, street medicine, and housing programs to connect guests with critical support systems.Inclusivity and Cultural Humility: Demonstrate inclusivity through actions and maintain sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.Crisis Management: Employ effective problem-solving and intervention strategies to address emergencies and support guests in navigating challenges.
