The main missions of the role are to:
As a member of the Program Core Team, the PDL is in charge of the complete engineering of the product and process, in compliance with Quality, Cost, Timing, Performance and People objectives and within PMS requirements.
His/her scope of responsibilities
Scope of work & time frame
▪ goes from concept design received from Concept Engineering to Start-Of-Production + 3/6 months (once quality standards have met customer specifications), from PMS phase 2 to phase 4 when in development is in phase 5 when he/she is in charge of serial life development
▪ Build the internal engineering schedule to match with the customer master schedule and industrialization / purchasing constraints.
▪ All tasks are done with the appropriate tools and in compliance with the PMS work-packages, FES standards & 7-Quality-Basics, in support of functional milestone "time to pass" objective.
▪ Reporting: Monthly report summary on PRC-template, including risk and opportunities and corresponding action plans.
▪ He capitalizes experience on the development through lessons learnt process
Product definition: tasks including --
▪ Lead product definition (completion of CAD) completed by Design Leader and development to ensure compliance to requirements (acceptance of customer product specification including geometry convergence
▪ The PDL formally releases/approves internally the DATA-levels that are given to the customer
▪ Make the functional analysis when required, develop the DFMEA and complete the action plan, support the PFMEA, and define the key characteristics.
▪ Establish and manage the bill of materials within Faurecia PDM.
▪ Enter all technical issues into a "single list of issues"
▪ Manage engineering change through ECM process
▪ Lead the action plan to solve all technical issues (including perceived quality problems)
▪ Implement Faurecia standards and guidelines and manage potential conflicts with customer's standards with PoC (internal deviation approval).
▪ Manage BOP definition release
Support risk management through robust design :
▪ with compliance to product/process design standards (per KM plan),
▪ managing cross-functional reviews (PPDR
Process definition:
▪ Ensure the feasibility of the process customers in line with best practises and PoC standards & guidelines, including ergonomics standards.
▪ Check process feasibility for BOP (validate feasibility studies of subsuppliers)
▪ Define tool specifications with the support of PTE and approve tool design release through the tool launch process, involving PML and PoC
▪ Define and receives approval from PML for the process flow chart (Suggestion from Ph Lalague) and ensure that product will comply with the process flow chart
▪ Develop & deliver robust tools to operations with optimised cycle time at expected quality level (capability), in line with targeted PPM and scrap level
▪ Release documentation for the plant (instruction sheet, process data sheet, rework-/mockup- instructions....) with support of the Pilot Plant.
Validation
▪ Responsible for the full validation of the product and process, to reach Production Part and Process Approval (PPAP) on time and in compliance with OEM and legal requirements (S/R, Environment…)
▪ Define the Design Validation Plan (DVP)
▪ Guarantee successful DVP : virtual validation (CAE) or prototype approved (Suggestion from Ph Lalague)
▪ Complete successful PV test
▪ Support development of process capability (CPK)
Cost Control
▪ Work in compliance with D&D budget and negotiate internal ECR with the Program Manager
▪ Make sure that product target costs meet the program requirements
▪ Identify all product changes with cost impact to reach "design to cost" and VAVE objectives
▪ Control tool tuning costs to stay within budget / under target
Customer relations
▪ The PDL is the primary Faurecia technical representative in front of the customer,
▪ He/she supports program management at customer in order to achieve the profitability objective of the program
▪ He/she leads the PDCA for technical problem-solving.
People management & development
▪ Manage the D&D team-members functionally (including product design engineers (PDE), development engineers (DE) and process tool engineers (PTE)).
▪ Ensure good communication within the extended technical team, production plant, offshore development sites, and support teams as well as subsuppliers of engineering services, tooling and BOPs .
▪ Coach & follow-up his/her team-members to reach performance.
▪ Supports the competencies development of the D&D people & their career development.
