The Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Engineering. TAME is dedicated to inspiring and supporting middle and high school students in exploring and pursuing engineering careers, aiming to provide opportunities for all students to engage with the field. Our mission is to provide students with opportunities to explore engineering pathways and cultivate a sense of belonging, empowering the next generation of engineers to develop solutions that address the needs of our world. TAME Clubs and TAME Engineering Competitions are school year-long engineering education programs, powered by dedicated volunteers. Each fall, students across Texas join TAME Clubs to engage in out-of-school engineering activities. These same students are then invited to participate in the TAME Engineering Competitions hosted regionally throughout Texas. This year, TAME is focused on integrating these programs– streamlining the student curricular experience as well as communications for volunteer TAME Club and Region Leaders. TAME Scholarships, awarded in the spring and summer, support graduating TAME students pursuing engineering and other STEM degrees.

Purpose

The Program Manager will be committed to motivating the next generation of Texas engineers. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Program Manager will oversee the execution and communication of essential programs, including TAME Clubs, Engineering Competitions, and Scholarships.  The Program Manager will work in partnership with the Executive Director to set the strategy and direction of TAME programs. Responsibilities include representing TAME at events and conferences and managing program support staff, which includes a Program Coordinator and any contractors or interns supporting programs, such as temporary event staff. In collaboration with the Director of Community Partnerships, the Program Manager will ensure TAME meets its annual goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

Program Strategy and Development

Partners with the Interim Executive Director to set the strategy and plan for TAME programs.

Contributes to the development of TAME’s educational approach and pedagogy to maximize the impact of each program and align with TAME’s mission and values.

Program Management and Implementation

Leads the recruitment process for TAME Clubs, fostering effective communication with core stakeholders, including Club and Region leadership.

Manages the TAME Club registration process in collaboration with the Program Coordinator to ensure a smooth experience for all TAME program stakeholders.

Coordinates the TAME Club toolkit design and execution, distributing resources to all eligible Clubs across Texas.

Plans and executes the annual TAME Engineering Competitions, collaborating with TAME Region Leaders to deliver 12+ events statewide, including managing event planning contractors.

Oversees the TAME Scholarship selection and distribution process to ensure a mission-aligned process, clear communication, and timely award delivery.

Supervises TAME volunteers, providing clear guidance, motivation, and support to ensure effective program implementation.

Financial and Budget Management

Manages program budget with support from TAME leadership, including providing inputs for budget development.

Manages program spending to align with budget projections, and provides data as needed for financial and compliance reporting.

Process Improvement and Technology

Works with the TAME team to streamline processes and leverage technology to improve efficiency and program outcomes.

Stakeholder Communication and Engagement

In partnership with TAME’s Development and Communications Team, supports TAME’s online presence, including providing regular updates for the website and newsletters for Club and Region Leaders.

Maintains unified, cohesive communications with TAME stakeholders through the volunteer/program relationship management system, Boomerang Volunteer.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Data-Informed Decision Making

Ensures regular monitoring and evaluation is conducted to ensure program effectiveness, working with the Executive Director to engage in data-informed decision-making for continuous program improvements.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree

Five (5) years of experience managing and working with volunteers, with an emphasis on engagement and retention

Proficiency in managing program budgets and understanding financial documents to align spending with projections

Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Boomerang) and technology integration for efficient program management

Proven success in program management, including coordinating and overseeing complex, multi-step programs with various stakeholders, including volunteers 

Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage a variety of stakeholders, from volunteers and students to community stakeholders

Proven ability to lead and motivate both staff, contractors, and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven work environment

Strong ability to plan, organize, and see projects through from ideation to completion while adapting to changing priorities

Ability to interpret data and use insights for program development and continuous improvement

A commitment to TAME’s mission of creating pathways into engineering for students and empowering the next generation of Texas engineers

Personal or professional experience in extracurricular programs

A strong connection to TAME’s mission

Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions

Work Shift

Standard work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Work outside of normal business hours may be required on an occasional basis during peak periods

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
