Job Description
The Program Manager, under general direction from the Ecological Resilience Team (ERT) Program Director, provides coordination, mentorship, management, and technical support for natural resources climate resilience and adaptation projects at the Natural Resources Institute. The Program Manager I will provide support to agencies such as US Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), National Park Service (NPS), Climate Adaptation Science Center (CASC), and Department of Defense (DoD), amongst others, to support landscape scale risk assessments, as well as species status assessments (SSAs), that have a significant climate component.
Responsibilities:
- Support the NRI Ecological Resilience Team (ERT)
- Coordinate Institute projects with a significant climate science nexus
- Develop and support graduate students from various backgrounds and with varying interests, skills, and qualifications who are interested in natural resources climate science
- Provide technical support for the planning, facilitation, and delivery of Species Status Assessments (SSAs) and related Endangered Species Act (ESA) documents (e.g., 5-year reviews) for the Service.
- Provide technical support for the planning, facilitation, and delivery of geospatial climate analyses to be integrated into NPS park plans
- Provide technical support for the planning, facilitation, and delivery of climate analyses to support the DoD mission
- Work directly with and supports Graduate students, Service Species Leads, SSA Teams, SSA Committees, and other Ecological Services staff to deliver the foundational science that support policy and relevant decisions regarding at-risk wildlife species under the ESA.
- Maintain relationships with diverse partners, such as the Service, DoD, USGS, USDA-NRCS, State agencies, private industry, academia, and NGOs, to conduct climate science to support agency goals, and build the NRI ERT program.
- Compile information by collecting, reviewing, and synthesizing published and unpublished material concerning natural resources climate science.
- Assessing data, particularly the identification and description of significant data gaps and optimal timeframes for filling those gaps should they exist.
- Spatial data analysis to include relevant ArcMap GIS products.
- Technical writing of key climate information for reports and other purposes.
- Organizing, planning, and scheduling relevant activities and meetings with other participants.
- Must have a clear understanding of national and regional political issues, familiarity with influential stakeholders and working knowledge of agency policies and procedures
- Preparation of information and other materials delivered by oral or written presentations concerning natural resources climate science.
- Other duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of related experience.
Preferred Education:
- Master's degree in applicable field.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of GIS, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.
