Program Manager - Workforce Health and Safety - Human Resources (HR)

This is a remote/work from home position. Hire must live within the continental US and be open to working eastern time zone hours.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

This role plays a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive health and safety program to ensure the well-being of the organization’s workforce. This position requires a self-motivated, strategic thinker with a strong background in health and safety regulations, risk management and vendor coordination and management. The work completed in this role will drive the prevention of workplace incidents through controls to mitigate risk and promote health and well-being.

Essential Job Functions

​Design and implement effective workforce health and safety programs in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices by developing policies, procedures, and protocols to enhance the overall health and safety culture within the organization.

Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure timely delivery, quality, and cost-effectiveness of services.

Conduct regular performance reviews and evaluations of vendors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and service level expectations. Identify, assess, and select vendors for health and safety-related products and services.

Stay abreast of local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, and ensure organizational compliance including collaboration with legal affairs teams to ensure BSMH implements necessary changes around health and safety laws.

Collaborate cross-functionally to conduct thorough risk assessments within the workplace,  develop strategies to mitigate identified risks and implement preventive measures and emergency response plans.

Establish training programs to educate employees on health and safety practices, processes,  and procedures in partnership with internal experts and external vendors.

Compile and analyze incident data in partnership with Advice and Council as well as other key stakeholders to prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies as required.

Maintain a framework for emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid training, regularly cadenced response drills and communication protocols.

Collaborate readily with Absence Benefits and Accommodations, Workers’ Compensation and Well-being teams readily to address needs as they are identified.

Promote a culture of open communication regarding health and safety matters through partnership with internal stakeholders, including HR, facilities, and operations, to ensure alignment of health and safety initiatives with organizational goals.

Licensing/Certification

Certified Safety or Associate Safety Professional Certification (preferred)

Certified Industrial Hygiene certification (preferred)

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Safety and Health Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (required)

Master’s in Public Health, Safety and Health Environmental Science, or related field (preferred)

Work Experience

3 years of recent experience in a hospital workforce health and safety role (required)

4 years of recent experience in a hospital workforce health and safety role (preferred)

Training

PureOHS Electronic Health Record(preferred)

Press Ganey Safety Reporting System (preferred)

Skills

​Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Proficient understanding of workplace health and safety processes and principles

Ability to implement action plans around data and trends

Demonstrated ability to engage populations with health communication

Experience with event logistics

Ability to apply behavioral health principles

Experience in customer service

Deep understanding of health promotion and safety program planning

Fundamental understanding of well-being programs
