Job Title Program Specialist I - Urban & Community Forestry Agency Texas A&M Forest Service Department Urban Forestry Proposed Minimum Salary $4,500.00 monthly Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description Texas A&M Forest Service is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented team member who has a passion for community forestry and arboriculture. This individual will be a part of an integral team that works to deliver technical assistance to support the agency mission of assuring the state's trees, forest and related natural resources are protected and sustained. General Summary: -Support the Urban and Community Forestry Program's sub-grant program to ensure effective project management, efficient processes and coordination of timely grant deliverables and milestones. -The Grant Specialist will collaborate with the U&CF team to establish evaluation metrics and criteria to assess the impact of pass-through funded projects. This role involves tracking incomes, measuring progress toward community forestry goals, and generating meaningful reports for funders and stakeholders to demonstrate tangible benefits from grants. -Serves as a liaison between state agency and subcontracting municipal and non-profit partners. -Support on-the-ground dedicated CPG, BIL and IRA funded projects to achieve program and agency mission. Serve as liaison to agency Communications, Conservation Education and State Grants Advisory Committee and help coordinate communication and outreach messaging efforts related to sub-grant awards. -This position will help coordinate statewide grant funded projects that support enhancing community tree cover to optimize associated benefits and contribute to the quality of life residents. -Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external partners. -Explore and expand the use of new technology and integrate as necessary into agency programs, including urban tree canopy assessments, GIS visualization, tree inventories, etc. -Collaborate with administrative and field staff to ensure effective delivery of urban initiatives. -Occasional duties to include training and response activities associated with local tree-related assistance, emergency response mission of the agency and support for additional agency programs. Required Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in Forestry or other natural resource field. -Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences. -Ability to multi-task, work efficiently with minimal supervision and to work cooperatively with internal and external partners. -Experience in grant management, community forestry or land management. -Experience working with GIS -Must have or obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of employment and have a driving record that meets agency requirements. -Ability to gain ISA Certified Arborist credential within one (1) year of hire. Preferred Qualifications: -Two (2) or more years of experience in urban forestry, land management, conservation or hydrology. -Experience in federal grant management, reporting, familiarity with managing grant funding dispersed across a network of organizations. -Experience with i-Tree suite of tools and other inventory software. -Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. -ISA Certified Arborist credential. Work Conditions : This job may require exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes. It may also require walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling lifting and carrying heavy objects. Job stress can be frequent when confronted with deadlines of various projects, frequent travel, long hours and adverse weather conditions.
