Summary These positions is located in region 4 with the Forest Service in Law Enforcement and Investigations and are responsible for supporting work for law enforcement personnel including Patrol Captions (PC), Special Agents (SA's) and Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) in zoned office environments. Perform administrative work related to record keeping, filing, unit planning, monitoring, resource studies, purchasing, minor budget tasks, travel, human resources, property management, facility liaison, and other related tasks. Use of automated systems and software to perform a substantial range of functions within each software type to produce a wide range of documents often requiring complex and varying formats. Examine assigned outgoing communication for procedural and grammatical accuracy, correct attachments, dates, signature, addresses, and destinations. Accept, examine, evaluate, route, and maintain incoming communication, mail, administrative email, faxes, and routine and sensitive correspondence. Schedule conferences and meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, and notifying participants. Advise on procedural and documentation requirements for unit programs, plans, and annual progress reports. Identify and recommend ways of combining, simplifying or improving program support processes. Screens calls and visitors, answering most questions on established policy or routine matters. Maintain detailed records and supporting materials for the budget to ensure adequate compliance for audits and historical reference. Develop and implement new systems or administrative processes to meet unit needs. Identifies, restructures, and recommends ways of eliminating, combining, simplifying, or improving administrative and clerical office procedures and processes. Review all formal outgoing correspondence for proper format, grammar, punctuation, etc., in accordance with Agency correspondence guidelines. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-05: Applicants must have one year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as greeting visitors and responding to phone and written inquiries personally or referring to other staff as appropriate; maintaining written records and files in hardcopy filing systems; and using word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print standardized documents ensuring correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format. OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR a combination of specialized experience (equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level) and successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: Participating in general program support work such as the annual budget, financial, procurement, property, or other administrative instruments for the program; maintaining records and filing systems; providing information to visitors and callers; using automated software or tools to produce written materials. OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as Business or Public Administration or related to the work of the position). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the position (such as Business or Public Administration, or other administrative management fields related to the position being filled). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-07 Applicants must have one year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: Carrying out administrative processes to meet unit needs; receiving and reviewing all formal ingoing/outgoing correspondence for proper format, grammar, punctuation, etc.; using automated databases or software to produce reports and record information; establishing and/or maintaining manual and electronic records, or filing systems; producing written documentation, reports, or memos in final format. OR one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position. Graduate level major field of study/coursework must be Business Administration, Public Administration, or related to the work of the position. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. OR a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Education Education can be used to qualify for the position. Transcripts must be attached if qualifying based on education.
