Position Title: Program Support

Corps/Department: Kodiak Corps

Reports To: Corps Officer

FLSA Status: Full-Time / 40 hours per week; Non-Exempt

Scope of Position/Essential Functions: The Program Support position will undertake all maintenance and repair jobs including minor construction. They will perform maintenance tasks of great variety, such as painting and patching, carpentry, minor plumbing & electrical. The Program Support is a thorough professional with a practical mind and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and responsibly by observing all health and safety guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Proven experience working in the field of maintenance. Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods. Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, solid carpentry skills, patching and painting skills. Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices. Manual dexterity and problem solving skills. Valid Alaska Driver’s License. Able to successfully pass Criminal Background and Motor Vehicle Record checks. Must meet all state requirements to be in compliance with DOT and Alaska state rules, which may include obtaining a medical certification from an approved provider.

Essential Functions:

Responsible for the upkeep and minor repairs of building and grounds. Maintain neat, clean, and safe work environment including responsibility for inventory of supplies, equipment, and machinery necessary for effective job performance. Assist with maintaining and servicing utilities in heat, electrical, plumbing and power. General maintenance of facilities and property within scope of ability. Interior painting as needed. Maintain the grounds by mowing, sweeping, shoveling, snow removal, and spreading sand to prevent slipping on walkways and parking areas as needed. Promptly addresses spills and stains (prioritizing based on safety). Shampoo carpets as needed on a regular basis. Stock supplies and materials needed, and keep storage areas neat and orderly. General cleaning of properties as directed by supervisor. Routine maintenance of vehicles, including checking for accident kits, vehicle registration, and necessary insurance documentation. Ensure vehicle maintenance log is maintained and updated regularly Assist with Food Bank duties. Operate a large vehicle (non-CDL/DOT) as needed to pick up food from the Food Bank distribution points and/or deliver food and supplies, pick up donations, load trash and unsellable merchandise and Haul to the local landfill or dump facility. Other reasonably related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 85 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors and out of doors in a variety of cool to warm weather conditions. Noise level is generally low to medium, but punctuated with motor and equipment operating noise. May require being out in wet weather for extended periods of time. Personal protective equipment will be worn as is required in the site’s Hazard Communication Program.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Must be able to understand, follow and give both written and oral instructions and be comfortable working with diverse individuals in face-to-face contact and over the telephone. The employee must be able to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.

PERFORMANCE SKILLS:  Must be punctual, organized, self-motivated, flexible, and possess a desire to learn and assist those he/she interacts with.

PROTECT THE MISSION:  Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Checks required by The Salvation Army for employment.

DRIVING REQUIREMENT: Must be a licensed driver with acceptable driving history. Must also complete and pass The Salvation Army driver safety course and annual motor vehicle records checks.
