Summary This position is located in the Health Information Management Department of Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and coordinate the ongoing activities of the charge master program. Technical duties to include performing quality/quantitative analysis of patient medical records to assure the presence of all component parts are complete and accurate. Audit report(s) is used to identify training needs for providers to include medical/nursing. Responsibilities 01/03/2025: This position is being re-announced to solicit additional candidates. Coordinates and oversees the ongoing activities of the charge master program. Works with all hospital departments, both inpatient and outpatient to implement and maintain the charge master and related processes. This includes meeting with staff to determine individual department needs for the charge tickets, assisting each department in implementing and revising charge tickets as needed, and advising departments on changing regulatory and billing requirements. Coordinates charge master activities between multiple departments and providing technical advice and assistance to ensure that processes are in place and flow smoothly. Assists departments in developing written policies and procedures for processes in cooperation with other departments in multi-disciplinary processes. Monitors coding compliance through audits and review of reports. Presents results to department supervisors. Identifies inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement of provider and facility coding and compliance. Communicates changes in coding guidelines, rules, and regulations to department supervisors. Communicates clinical documentation discrepancies and provides training for improvement. Determines staff training needs and arranges or provides training as needed to update staff on changes in policies, rules, and regulations, and to support continued functioning of the chargemaster program. Facilitates and chairs the Chargemaster Committee. Develops additional appropriate committees and work groups as needed to address program needs. Facilitates and directs actions to address issues that are generated in the Chargemaster meetings. Establishes timelines for projects, tasks, and reports to be completed. Maintains open lines of communication with all departments and facilitates the accomplishment of tasks while reducing obstacles and roadblocks to objectives. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-09: Applicants must successfully complete 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree -OR- master's or equivalent graduate degree -OR- LL.B. or J.D., if related -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized experience is defined as knowledge and understanding of mission objectives, goals, plans, and administrative activities which entail having responsibility of deadlines and commitments in an office setting. Coordinating services for delivery, installation and servicing of equipment for multiple facilities and staff members in an effective timely manner. Preparing various correspondence and reports, and prepares office and equipment related projects. Provides clear, concise, and effective responses to routine inquiries for information, and/or answering questions on program operations including technical policies and procedures. NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. Combining Education and Experience: Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. (When crediting education that requires specific course work, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.) One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
