The Programme Manager is responsible for leading the Innovation Project Management team, a team of UK and US based project managers delivering continuous improvement, innovation and collaboration programmes and projects primarily for the R&D function. You will also be responsible for managing your own programmes, these will be cross functional requiring you to work with stakeholders across Abcam and in other Danaher operating companies.
This position reports to the VP of Research and Innovation and is part of the Research and Innovation team located in Cambridge and will be on-site. In this role you will work closely with the Danaher Business System (DBS) Office. At Abcam, our vision is to be the most influential life sciences company for researchers worldwide.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
+ Lead the Innovation Project Management (IPM) team. A team of project managers delivering projects for Abcam R&D. These projects can be internal to R&D, but are more often cross functional, where R&D teams collaborate with Digital, Ops, Marketing and Product to deliver improvements, new capabilities and innovations to the business. Abcam is now part of Danaher, increasingly projects will require the IPM team to work with the other Danaher operating companies.
+ Drive programmes and projects managed by the IPM team to deliver on time, on budget and to scope. When projects are off track, assist in problem solving and as needed escalate issues to relevant stakeholders.
+ Define project management governance and processes for the IPM team. Work with the DBS office and other stakeholders across the business to align these processes for Abcam and to Danaher best practice.
+ Develop and maintain a process to captured and monitored demand for project management across R&D/innovation now and into the future, ensuring adequate resource is available to support projects requiring a project manager.
+ Manage your own programmes and projects, given your seniority, these will typically be challenging, complex and cross-functional, requiring excellent project management skills and an ability to interact and influence stakeholders across all functions and levels within the business.
+ Work as part of multidisciplinary teams employing the DBS to drive improvement and solve problems across the business.
+ Build a community of project managers across Abcam to share best practice and learning, participate in the Danaher wide PMO council.
The essential requirements of the job include:
+ Bachelors Degree or higher
+ Project management certification (PMP, Prince 2, APM PMQ)
+ Long standing experience (7-10+yrs) in the delivery of programmes and projects
+ Multiple years (3-5+yrs) of experience managing people and leading a team
+ Track record of delivering complex cross functional projects, to scope, on-time and on-budget.
+ Ability to communicate effectively to stakeholders across all functions and at all levels of the business.
+ Ability to work collaboratively in matrix settings, both within the organization and with external partners
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
+ 10% travel – visiting US based team, participating in DBS events
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
+ Degree in a relevant field, physical sciences, biological sciences or business.
+ Project management experience in life sciences, pharma or biopharma.
+ Co-ordinating the development of business cases.
