MaRMAT can currently be run in the command line or, for Windows users, in a GUI that has been programmed using tkinter. The tool’s design facilitates an easy-to-follow process for comparing metadata against a lexicon of terms. The hired student will work closely with Metadata Strategies Librarian Rachel Wittmann and Research Data Librarian Kaylee Alexander to make improvements to the beta version of MaRMAT with the goal of improving accessibility, UX design, and performance, as well as explore options for creating a web-based version. This position will provide the hired student with practical application development and programming experience and hands-on research opportunities. Applicants should have proficiency in python and an interest in software development. The hired student will also have the opportunity to contribute to project documentation and dissemination, including presentations and publications related to this work. The student will be hired for the Spring 2025 semester with the possibility of extending through Summer/Fall 2025 as needed. This is a hybrid position, with on-site hours in the Marriott Library and remote hours (based on a supervisors approval). On-site work will be required up to 50% of the time, with additional on-site time during onboarding. For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted. **Responsibilities** + Evaluate existing MaRMAT code + Propose and implement changes to the MaRMAT GUI to improve user experience + Investigate options for creating a web application + Contribute to MaRMAT documentation and related research outputs **Minimum Qualifications** Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters. **Preferences** + Graduate or advanced undergraduate student in computer science or a related discipline + Proficiency in Python + Experience with software development and programming + Interest in UX design and web accessibility + Interest in Apple OS application scripting + Ability to work creatively and collaboratively as well as independently + Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy + Good English comprehension and written language skills **Special Instructions Summary** **Additional Information** The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems (“URS”).
