This position is responsible for conducting and overseeing field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, report production, and curation, which is to be in compliance with quality standards for the technical work and in accordance with various agency requirements and guidelines, as well as general standards of scientific quality. Other aspects of this role will be managing entry level technical professionals.

Responsibilities Direct technical work under supervision of Principal InvestigatorDevelop expertise with regulatory compliance at federal, state, and local levelsAssist with documentation for agency and client coordinationLead fieldwork including teams of crew chiefs and/or archaeological techniciansAuthor large technical reports, research designs, treatment plans, and other technical documents, as appropriate and needed under the supervision of Principal InvestigatorProvide processing of records and materials collectionsProvide preliminary identifications, analysis, and assessments of pre-contact and post-contact materials/features/structures to the Principal InvestigatorDevelop expertise in subfield of cultural resources management, such as artifact analysis, GIS, geo-archaeology, deliverable preparation, or similarly applicable subfieldActively participate in professional organizations and developmentMentor and train more junior staff Qualifications Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related fieldMinimum of four years of experience in archaeological investigations, such as Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, or Phase III data recoveries, artifact analysis, and report writing on projects in TexasCandidate must have two years of supervisory experience in laboratory work, with preferred experience in historical artifact analysisWorking knowledge of Section 106 of the NHPA, Antiquities Code of Texas, and NEPAWorking knowledge of curation standards for the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory and the Center for Archaeological Research at the University of Texas at San Antonio preferredDemonstrate competency in subfield of cultural resources management, such as artifact analysis, bioarchaeology, GIS, geo-archaeology, deliverable preparation, or similarly applicable subfieldProven ability to direct and mentor field and lab techniciansExceptional organizational and record keeping, critical thinking, and time management skillsAbility to successfully delegate tasksAbility to successfully manage multiple collections concurrentlyExperience writing technical reports from start to finishExperience working on testing and data recovery projects preferredExperience conducting archival research preferredExperience with digital data collection platforms and Global Positioning SystemsMust be able to work in the field under various terrain and weather conditions as neededMust be self-motivated and able to work independentlyMust be able to walk and stand for prolonged time periods; dig with a variety of hand tools, bend, kneel, and standMust be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. such as a bucket filled with rocks or soil; boxes of stone artifactsMust be flexible to work within the office hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday with occasional overtime, as neededPosition may require irregular hours due to client needs; work responsibilities may require out of town/overnight travel to Pape-Dawson offices or project locationsMust have a valid Driver’s LicenseWorking knowledge of Excel and managing large databasesGIS experience preferred
