Project Civil Engineer

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our team on a full-time, direct basis at our office in Chantilly, VA.  In this role, you’ll lead diverse multi-discipline design projects, working on both public & private site development projects!  You’ll also collaborate with Municipal clients across different markets, gaining invaluable experience while also making a real impact!

 

In this role, you’ll tackle a variety of exciting tasks based your technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.  Your work will include designing and planning developments that include critical infrastructure components (i.e.:  Stormwater Management [SWM], drainage, erosion control, etc.).  You’ll also handle land development applications, code reviews, and feasibility studies across diverse markets.  This is a chance to dive into various projects and make a real impact!

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee schedules & budgets for various projects to ensure completion in an efficient and effective manner. Engage with clients & regulatory agencies to ensure effective communication and collaboration. Prepare proposals for new & existing clients (including estimation of project fees). Oversee the development of Land Development Plans; this includes the preparation of engineering design drawings, technical specification, and engineering reports (from schematic design through construction). Coordinate permits and land development applications for review & approval from regulatory agencies for various projects. Assign tasks to Junior Engineers & Drafters; this includes providing mentorship & guidance in developing SWM strategies, Utility Coordination, and Erosion & Sediment Control [E&SC] Design. Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.

 

 

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or a related discipline). 7+ years of professional experience working in Engineering (preferably with Land Development design projects). Professional Engineer license in VA (we will consider candidates who are able to successfully obtain their PE within 6 months of their start date).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Project Management experience; proven ability to manage multi-discipline projects is preferred. Experience working on brownfield (land redevelopment) as well as greenfield projects. Advanced proficiency with site design functions:  site layout, grading, utility design, stormwater management, erosion control, municipal & land-use regulatory approvals, etc. Experience with designing SWM plans; proficiency with Hydrology and Hydraulics [H&H] modeling tools (e.g.:  HydroCAD, Hydraflow, etc.) is preferred. Proficiency with engineering / CADD tools (e.g.: AutoCAD Civil 3D, etc.). Proficiency with standard office & project management software applications:  Microsoft Office 365 (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook), etc. Proven ability to demonstrate strategic thinking skills, especially with understanding overarching project goals while integrating various design disciplines effectively. Exceptional time management skills. Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic & challenging team environment as a collaborative Team Player while also maintaining the ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
