Project Engineer, Energy Storage

Ameresco's federal solutions team is seeking to add an Energy Storage Project Engineer based in the Greater Boston or Portland, ME, area. NOTE: Remote candidates may also be considered. The ideal candidate will have a passion for energy storage, distributed energy resources, and renewable energy, along with a technical knowledge base of behind the meter energy storage use cases and markets.


Responsibilities:

Evaluate behind-the-meter energy storage project opportunities to determine which opportunities are worth pursuing based on technical, economic, market and project screening criteria.

Lead and support project development efforts for behind-the-meter energy storage and microgrid projects with US Federal Government agencies and Commerical & Industrial clients, gathering relevant project information and data, conducting engineering analysis to design system architecture and calculating project costs, savings and revenue opportunity.

Use internal and third-party software tools to perform technical and economic modeling of energy storage systems to design energy storage systems utilized for customer utility cost savings, energy market participation and resiliency.

Evaluate the landscapes for technology, standards, and policy to recommend cutting edge solutions for projects and inform strategic partnership and planning activity.

Manage utility and ISO interconnection applications and processes for energy storage and renewable energy assets.

Identify opportunities for participation in wholesale energy markets, utility programs, and grant opportunities, and their related enrollment and operational requirements.

Contribute to technical writing of project proposals and responses to industry RFIs and RFPs.

Support activity related to construction, operation and maintenance of energy storage systems as needed.

Monitor energy storage field operation, analyze data, and recommend opportunities for performance optimization to the O&M team.

Provide engineering and technical support to the O&M team for energy storage issue resolution, as needed.

Establish mechanisms to capture ongoing field performance data and lessons learned and leverage such data to inform new project development.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Energy Engineering or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

Minimum of five (5) years of industry experience in a project development, engineering, or product management.

Prior experience working directly with behind the meter energy storage and other distributed energy resource technologies in a project or product management role.

Additional Qualifications:

Demonstrated understanding of current engineering principles associated with analysis of power systems, electrical interconnection, battery energy storage systems, microgrid controls, data monitoring/reporting systems. Ability to evaluate electrical drawings and specifications.

Experience with Energy Toolbase or other similar behind-the-meter solar and energy storage modeling tools.

Experience with and knowledge of energy storage site control and energy management systems, and their related networking and communication devices.

Strong data analysis and technical writing skills, and knowledge of power systems/electrical engineering principles.

Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and data analysis. Experience with programming (Python; Visual Basic; C++) is desirable.

Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills.

Detail oriented with ability to work collaboratively with team members nearby and remotely, managing multiple tasks simultaneously

Valid Driver’s License in good standing, issued by resident state required.

Ability to review confidential US security information. 

Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.
